I didn't see anyone other than smoothie comment on this, but by making this move the Rockets can take back Lee via the Landry TPE from last year and then the Rockets trade Ariza to NJ for a 6.3M TPE. So that 6.3M TPE is another asset now.

If Yao is healthy and playing at least 20 mins, there's no chance that they're better than us. If Yao isn't playing . . . I think it's pretty even between the two teams. The Rockets have made some pretty significant improvements since last season even though none of them have been blockbuster moves.

Yeah, Defense is such a minimal thing in the NBA.

Ariza and Battier had a bet last season about who could shoot closest to 40% from the field without going over. Battier won and Ariza flipped out during the offseason when it was time to pay up.

Its Bud time. Time to party Bud. Unless Battier crashes it with his boring talking and post game interviews after losses.

It was with Trevor as players blew by him left and right.

He was good in the passing lanes but his lateral quickness sucked.

Who is their backup PG when CP3 goes down again?

Oh yeah, he was just traded.

Rockets will not spend the TPE. The asset is just for saving the money.

um excuse me but dont we also have a superstar returning from injury? Do we not also have 13m in expiring with battier and jeffries and throw in Hayes and Lee's expirings as well. We outplayed the hornets sans superstars and well outplay them again.

I hate losing Ariza but with Lee you get much better on ball defense read the reports and watch the kid play for SVG. In addition you get a much more solid deep threat. With all of Arizas length he provided no weakside blocking that was led by BATTIER. Arizas length was great in the passing lanes but thats replaced by Martin. DD's right everything Ariza provides is already here on the Rockets with more efficient and cheaper players. By trading Ariza you fill a need give a promising young player a chance to shine, save cash, and keep expirings that you can parlay into a better SF in the trade deadline.

It took some searching but this trade is a win for Morey

Chase Budinger absolutely cannot start for a playoff team in the Western Conference.

Could you imagine how bad our defense would be? Chase would be forced to guard Melo, Kobe, Durant, and LeBron (in the finals if we got there). Career playoff highs for the whole lot of 'em.

That is, unless, we traded Battier for a good defensive SF (Iggy), but that handcuffs us into trading for another SF.

I guess you are assuming that Chase would never get any better than he was in his rookie year?

    Bad assumption.

I think Andre Iguodala would make perfect sense in conjuntion with this trade. The question however is if Philadelphia has stopped insisting on including Elton Brand in any trade for him. If so, I think Morey would pull the trigger on that. K-mart and Iggy would make a good combo at the wings.

Sure, he could very easily get better, and I expect him to, but there are some things you can't teach in 1 offseason, and elite defense is one of them.

Ariza was an above average defender who also had the length to further bolster his defensive prowess. Budinger doesn't have that.
