I think teams will be more interested in the EXPIRING contract.

Of course it was a salary dump, but you are 100% wrong about teams wanting Shane, at the deadline he and his contract will be very valuable....

In the meantime it clears room for Cbud to play more, so why not?

Trevor is just redundant.....and honestly not that good at the game of basketball.

So we went from moving Ariza for Iggy? To moving him for Courtney Lee? Genius. Utter genius. I see the aura of Morey shining down upon this team and making everything glow. Its a beautiful color of turd brown..

I was all for getting a true backup SG but not at the cost of our starting SF. So we turned our backup SG weakness into a starting SF weakness. I hope Morey has one more rabbit in that hat because this one's a little sick.

Though I will agree that this was probably admitting that Ariza was not a good signing though I think he would have fit in a 4-5 option role. Saves Les money in the end and I'm sure that was the main part of this trade for us.

It is the point. Ariza is way more talented, Battier is the better player.

This is identical to the Rafer, Lowry move. Better player in the wings, upgrading 2 positions simultaneously.

I'm guessing #6. He's worn it before & it's available on our roster.

I know I made up a long laundry list of things of why this was a good deal and reasons behind it, but I'm thinking to myself - does anybody think this move will open up some potentially minutes for PP (assuming we don't make another trade)? I know Morey said they wanted him to play the post, but do you think they turn him into the Robert Horry Part II?

When did such "ugly" event happen to cause the team to start trying to trade Ariza a month and a half ago? I mean, the season ended in April. Was it someing back then or something happening in offseason?

We will see, but I think in a division as close as the southwest already is, the hornets will finish better than the rockets. They have a superstar coming back from injury that will be huge. Trevor helps them alot and he is the posey replacement except younger which is what they needed. They also have a 13m expiring in peja they can dangle. There are alot of expiring contracts around the league right now. Just like the free agent market, teams will have their choice of which expiring they want at the end of the year. Just as battier, jeffries, hayes can be traded for a better player, david west, peja, murphy again and countless others will be in the same boat. I mean its one year rental type of players and teams know this. The thing is, the better that player is in the last year of his deal, the more compensation a team could possible get. Unless this team can get 1 of the 2 final superstars left (melo or paul) they will be just another also ran type of team.

Until they do something they have done nothing. Yaos broken foot or not. I dont hand out excuses when we could have traded Yao before he broke his fot chronically hindering us as a organization. I am not one of those enabling fans. I search for results and go off of that for praise.

Courtney Lee is a solid addition. He might do better with this offense too it appears he plays really well off the ball like Chase and can get his shot attacking the basket or off a screen. He looks like Rip Hamilton, but his game reminds me of Kerry Kittles for some reason.

    Ha

    Ha

    Ha

Speaking in absolutes like this, you should know better......

The Rockets will be better than the Hornets.....they are a deeper team with better overall talent and chemistry.

    CP3 is bothered by AB's speed......we are good...and with a healthy Yao....great.

This 45-50 win team is not worth an $80 million payroll. If they can make a lateral move that saves a lot of money and doesn't make the team much worse, I'm all for it. How many wins difference do you think this will make? 1-2 at the absolute most? Keep in mind that our starting shooting guard is a cripple and our backup is Joey Dorsey v 2.0.

I think my first reaction was similar to most of the posters on this board. Ariza has made more of a name for himself (hence the salary), but after reading the scouting report on Lee, I think it was a decent move that helps the salary situation a lot. Lee does have much better upside and seems willing to learn. Hopefully, a lot of Battier's cunning can rub off on him.

Hornets are better than us now. Paul is staying there and we ended up helping them keep him. Nice....

With CBud we are fine without Ariza. Should have a minimal impact on the team's play.

Yep... we get a younger cheaper small forward who was contributing on a championship contending Magics team as a rookie (similar stats to Bud). Plus his contract works in a way where we get him for at least two years on the cheap and he serves as an expiring contract that we can toss in. This trade takes away the Paul sweep-stake but actually helps us with a Melo trade. Not sure of Melo is the guy to lead us to the promise land, but having Lee helps is landing him more than Ariza. Lee, Battier, Jefferies, Hill is a good start there. I am fine with the Lee trade as a move with an eye towards flexibility and future assets.
