We have to many small forwards on the roster as it is. That's the reason for the move as well as luxury tax reasons of course.

We didn't come up on this deal but I don't think Ariza was a game changer for us anyways. Better to clear the salary & try to work something in the off seaon or later on in the season.

Please tell me the following then on defense, which wins championships:

Kobe/Wade = Shane/Martin (this previously was Ariza on the floor with Shane to provide some serious wing D)
    Artest/Lebron = Martin/Shane

We are going to get murdered on with on shooting Shane in the game with Yao, Trevor is a better shooter and defender at this point in his/Shane career.

Dump Battier for Salary along with Jeffries. Morey better have something else going on. Seriously!!!

No I dont. I understand what you are saying. But do you remember two offseasons ago when after we missed out on Gortat Morey went begging to Ariza to join the team. Ariza had much better options than us.

So maybe in Ariza's perspective he looking at it like "damn these guys recruited me so hard just to trade me in the next offseason." Im sure players want at least some loyalty.

Until we build a roster that is definitely capable of winning a championship, players shouldn't argue with front office moves. I'm sure it is disappointing to them to see guys like Ariza and Landry leave, but this isn't a rec league with a bunch of buddies playing together.

And frankly, losing Ariza does not put us further away from contending (with Battier, Budinger, and Lee available to fill in). in reality, it will put us closer since it gives us more financial flexibility to make a big move at a later date.

Well who is starting? Budinger and Battier? Battier and Martin? Just moving backwards. Battier is not good anymore. If its Budinger it makes sense moving forward with Budinger developing. I am loathing seeing Battier start again with his limited offense. Lets not kid ourselves. Battier is very limited at SF. A step back.

C.lee with Orlando = Finals in his Rookie year.

VC with Orlando = no Finals

VC = offense skills with no D

C.lee = (apparently everybody on this board says he can score) and plays better D

You figure out if they were better with C. Lee or VC...

Wow. What an ill considered statement. All emotion no logic, unworthy of a 9000+ post Clutchfan.

Actually I wouldnt be surprised if you saw a lot of Lee in the 4th gaurding the SG's. Because Lee is a better defender then Martin hands down.

If Morey is such a genius, why did he sign Ariza to the monster contract, knowing we needed money to sign Scola and Lowry? The genius thing is beginning to crack on Morey.

Big vote of confidence in Bud...plan at this point has to be to start the season with Battier in the starting 5 but transition to Bud over the course of the year.

It's a satisfactory reshuffling of our glut at SF while saving money. God love Trevor, he just wasn't going to work in a role as big as we wanted him to play.

That concerns me because Lowry appeared frustrated with management earlier in the offseason when they wouldn't open negotiations. Personally I don't think Kyle has a high opinion of the front office but I still expect him to play with as much heart as last year.

This trade is like Cutting 3" off your Unit ( know what I mean ) Your wife/girlfriend will notice the difference and leave you for your best friend ...

Lee a better scorer than Ariza but cannot play any Defense.
why is it that the rockets always have to find a way to get Shorter and Softer.. our God Marvelous is on desperate mode.. WTF is Chris Paul on this trade ?? Danny Grainger ?? .. You can call it a lateral move by the GM but I don't see the improvement, actually I think the Hornets got a lot better with Ariza and Paul still there.

Softest starting 5 in the NBA?
Yao, Scola, Martin, Lee and Brooks

During that 2007-2008 with NJ season VC was some playing pretty basketball . He averaged 22/6/5 and was having a resurgence of sorts. Hindsight I think Orlando would have kept Lee if they knew VC was gonna suck for them.

Battier is not a good starter in this league anymore. Thats why we got Ariza in the first place.
