Does anybody have any recommendations on a quiet garage door opener and maybe someone to install it? We have a standard two car garage but the opener is extremely loud. The nursery happens to be near the garage and whenever the door opens, the ruckus wakes the kid up. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
"Is that a serious question?" (also, name that movie... difficulty: easy) If you can open the garage on your own (without the automatic garage door opener) making LESS noise, sir, please record it on video. Would love to watch.
40 Year Old Virgin. Come on you got to make a harder one then that. Other then that, I don't believe a quiet garage door exists.
Well, the problem is when I work late, I tend to wake the baby up. I could go through the front door, detach the the garage door opener then open/close it manually but that's such a pain. I remember being at other peoples houses where the garage door was relatively quiet. I'm not looking for something silent, just something that is a quieter and doesn't shake the house like the one I have. Dr of Dunk - Thanks for the tip. Looks like belt drive ones are the way to go. Apparently I have a chain drive one and they are significantly louder.
Yup. But they, generally, aren't as quiet as belt drives. I've also read of a lot of issues with these during temperature variations in the weather. They have fewer moving parts than the other two kinds.
why not just build a box around the system with some kind of sound proofing/insulation? i can picture it in my head but i think it's definitely possible. weekend project?
grease up all the parts. chain, spring, wheels etc... does it slam down? maybe adjust how long its on. if the motor is just too loud then go get a new one i guess.
