According to CBS Sports, Isiah Thomas got re-hired after convincing Dolan he's good at recruiting free agents, GM candidates are selling Knicks on their ability to recruit big fish FAs, and D Walsh is tired of the recruiting game.

Evaluating talent, positioning for drafts and making trades are different skills than recuiting FAs. The latter being more of a college coach type thing. Morey-- or rather the current front office/coaching staff-- has done well with the first 3 tasks, but can they recruit big fish? Adelman is good at working the 30+ Midwestern white guy population like Brad Miller because he's really earthy, but do earthy and geeky work for today's FA? Were the Rockets are too geeky even for geeky Bosh? Do we need someone cool to do the job?

Do we need someone slick and oily like Pat Riley or street smart like Isiah to work? You know, like a Calipari?

LOL at Isiah being good at recruiting free agents. Its easy to recruit average/mediocre FAs when you are grossly overpaying for them.

I think there are only two things that recruit FA's:

    Money.
    Winning.

We didn't quite have the latter last season and we're kinda tight on the first.

He recruited the Knicks as runner-ups to the place where the talents would be taken.

Pshh, he couldn't even recruit that front-office secretary to get down with the team.

And lets not forget Jerome James and Eddy Curry. The Curry deal was even worst because he had to give up lottery picks to Chicago for him.

I remain convinced that the free agent palooza was more about the cities than the teams. Because of that, LA, Miami, and NY will always have an advantage.

    From an yahoo article:
We need someone like that. HOFer who appeals to youngsters. Hakeem is not really a "recruiter" type. So I am thinking the guy we should hire is Charles Barkley. He wants a front office job, doesn't he?

    Rudy T?

I'd definitely take Rudy in a recruitment role for us rather than working as scout for the much-hated Lakers. :)

All the younger NBA players came after Isiah's era. It's all the old veterans that are about to retire that grew up with Isiah. The younger generation grew up watching Kobe, McGrady and Shaq. Even Durant says he grew up watching T-Mac.

Getting a recruiter like Isiah Thomas seems to work against the Knicks instead of in their favor. One of the 2 biggest media markets in the league, but they can only get Eddy Curry and Jared Jeffries with Thomas recruiting? Without Isiah recruiting, they got Stoudemire and Raymond Felton.

Stoudemire and Felton(w/o Isiah recruiting) >>>> Curry and Jeffries (w/ Isiah recruiting)

Good idea lol, but I think Charles hates us because he says the Rockets shafted him (3 million I think?) when he left us. He would be great, but we would have to pay him (he can be bought though).

I really think if we have a steady superstar and we are winning people will flock to us (like charles did at the end of his career).

If everything is equal, players probably will go to the more glamorous city and media market.

Our head free agent recruiter should be either Hakeem or Clyde.

Another possiblity would be Kenny Smith. His ass needs to help us out!

Kenny gets alot of respect from players because of his edginess and how he presents himself on TNT.

    Kenny Smith>Isaiah Thomas
