In light of the recent collapse of Team USA, I want to see how much you care about international basketball comparing with NBA competition.

What would make you more upset?

Dream Team with the BEST American players eliminated from medal round in 2004 Olympics, or

The Rockets eliminated in Western Conference Finals

This poll is restricted to American Rockets fans.

definitely care more about the rockets than the US needing to dominate bball. So I'd be more bummed about a near-miss for the rocks getting to the finals.

    The Rockets of course.
I'd be shocked if a team of our NBA First Team lost.

Well, nobody cares. That's what I thought.

Dr of Dunk observed the apathy of the fans in the stand last night. My bet is, most people on this board don't care about how the "Dream Team" is doing, even if they have the best players. If the fans don't care, isn't it a bit hypocritical for them to criticize the players for not participating?

The problem is NOT just some snobbish players not wanting to waste their summer vacation on some "meaningless" games. Well the games are meaningless, aren't they? I think I've heard some people here complaining about Ming playing some "meaningless" (i.e. the WC and the Asian games) games rather than working with us in training camp. How are these games meaningless if Ming thinks that it's meaningful to don the NT uniform and try to win for your country?

I guess most American fans just don't have this kind of mindset. I mean, since when did the tennis fans care about the Davis Cup? OK, Ok, tennis is an individual sport, so it doesn't count. Since when did the hockey fans cares about the US vs the World all-star game? Well, it's an ALL-STAR game. It's meaningless!

That's exactly what I am trying to say. The so-called Dream Team is an all-star team. The games they play are treated by Americans, players and fans alike, as all-star games, which means meaningless games. That's at least a big part of the problem with what happened the past two days.

The first sign was when Yao Ming drew more fans in Oakland (18,000?)
than the US has over the last few games.

    That should tell us something.
