If there was ANYTHING that could be thought of as amusing about Allison last year, it was the horrific local news coverage like Rob "Captain Fabulous" Arnold standing knee deep in water telling channel 2 viewers to "PLEASE, stay OUT of the water." So, tonight, I saw my first of what is sure to be many classic moments during Fay. A WB39 News Reporter in Galveston (extended coverage of the weather screwed over the first syndicated Seinfeld episode ) standing on the seawall said, "A thunder-boomer just about blew me out of my waders." Oh, man, that was killer. Feel free to post your local news "Emmy moments" as the weekend progresses.
I guess seeing any idiot reporting IN THE RAIN is pretty damn funny to me... here it is raining like crazy and these mofo's are out in it, reporting that... IT'S RAINING!!!
I just enjoy the overwhelming amount of "breaking news" alerts that must be shown and interupt what I am watching. All they is just some boso with a radar screen saying the same thing as an hour ago, "It is gonna rain all weekend." Anyone else remember when Sher-Min Chow on Channel 13 was out in a storm and it looked like she was going to get blown away? She was in a yellow raincat - too funny!
The funniest thing to me has always been how we have these guys standing in tropical storms, hurricanes, etc. telling us to stay indoors. Are they supermen, or just superstupid?
Wow, I was just about to post this. They put her in the middle of that storm and she weighs something like 50 lbs as it is. I never laughed so hard in my life. I kept thinking "what in the hell are they trying to do to this poor woman?" I kept thinking that at any second you'd see her just up and launch about 50 feet backwards due to wind gusts.
Last year, Eileen Faxus was out on location near a bayou during Allison. There was what appeared to be a family pulling belongings and children out of a boat and a number of people had gone down to help them. They were obviously struggling trying to get to safety. She gave a report and then they went back to the studio. A minute later, for whatever reason, they flashed back to that scene and there, in the background, are these poor people still struggling to hoist their children out of the boat. In the foregroud, a completely unaware Faxus watching the family while she attempts to fix her hair under her poncho hood. Very nice.
Would you be holding a long metal rod as well? Dr. Neil was funny tonight on the 10 pm news. He led the newscast with his report, which included differences from every other report on TV and online. I thought "How arrogent of him". He also kept saying "We'll have more later in the broadcast, then came back 10 minutes later and repeated his previous report from 10 minutes earlier. The best part: I get up this morning and check in, and his forecast was correct!
darn it... the rain has hit Austin! I have to go run in the pouring rain this morning! aargh, i hate rain in the morning! cars never see me!!!!! sorry, just had to vent there.
Just like with Allison, I received less than an inch of rain. And it's not like I live outside of Houston. I'm talking West-disde between The Belt and 6. But I have had to suffer through all of this news. I think the worst of it is all most over. The news stories are dissipating a little bit. Every now and then there will be a downfall of news but for the most part I think we weathered the news storm.
That's disgusting. Was she using the same logic that nature documentaries use when they show a Moose drowning in a frozen lake and don't 'interfere' with nature? Aren't humans a part of nature?
I wouldn't know. There was no power, trees were getting split in half and I was watching cars get stuck in waist-deep water. Actually, it would have been nice to be able to actually see a tv broadcast at that point.
perhaps you should be thankful that you got less than an inch of rain during Allison rather than complain what was broadcasting on tv.
So how was it guys? Or is it still going? I'm in Dallas and the skies became somewhat cloudy, but no rain yet where I live. My parents (who live in Houston) told me the rain was coming down all night and they lost their electricity for a bit.
We had spotty storms in Austin. We only got 1.5 inches at the house but at least one area got 5. Not a big deal so far.
