They might offer a future second round pick or cash to get their "piece of value" back. But as it has been noted already, NY would have to make it pretty damn enticing for Morey to agree to taking on $4 mil in extra salary. Taking the lottery protection off the 2011, 2012 picks would do it IMO, but I don't see the Knicks doing it. And there's no way in this or any sane universe the Knicks would offer Randolph to acquire Jeffries.
After all, Isiah Thomas is back with the Knicks. Therefore there is a good chance the Knicks do something stupid
What other teams out there are interested in Jeffries? I know their were rumors of a deal with Charlotte about Jeffries and Jordan did draft him during his years with the Wizards. How bout Jeffries + Battier + Taylor + Patterson + NY draft picks for Wallace + Diop Brooks/Lowry Martin/Budinger Wallace/Ariza Scola/Hill/Hayes Yao/Miller/Diop
Does anybody know what were the other "several" teams that Spears reported that inquired about Jeffries? NY, outside of Randolph, Gallinari, or Chandler, has no assets for us. Screw Eddy Curry's fat ass and fat contract.
I don't know if this rumor has been posted, but it sure would explain a lot. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...isiah_will_consult_nba_eyes_fiu_conflict.html If true, I'm not surprised Morey fleeced NY. If you had Thomas promising that he could recruit a big name, and the owner was stupidly buying into that, it would have put even more pressure on Walsh to clear the necessary cap space. PS, NY is screwed. Whatever small tiny glimmer of hope they had has been snuffed out by this news. But even more important, our pick is looking better by the day!
Was chatting with TheKnicksChick (Marija) about this and trying to recruit her to join our forum, I hope she doesn't mind me posting her response for now.
I don't understand the great rush to get rid of Jeffries. At this point, he is a far more useful player than Shane Battier or Chuck Hayes. Battier has the comparable salary and Hayes has comparable skills. We need to trade one or both at trade deadline but keep Jeffries for the playoffs. When his contract ends, we get cap relief or we sign him for something more like Chuck Hayes' contract. For this season, at least, Jeffries is a keeper.
Battier at least has a useful offensive skill and can make a layup. Hayes has a much smaller cap figure and is so solid in his post D. There's nothing that would make Jeffries deserve a rotation spot (or a 2011-12 roster spot) over those guys.
Surely you did not just say that Chuck Hayes, who at the PF spot (not Center) is one of the best post defenders and pick-and-roll defenders in the game, is a less useful player than Jared Jeffries. Jeffries is long, and that's about the only advantage he might have. He can take a charge about as well as Battier or Chuck, but that's where the comparisons stop. Jeffries can't guard the Kobe's, Carmelo's, etc. anywhere near the level that Battier can. And he can't hit the three consistently. He also can't guard a PF in the post near the level that Chuck can. Jeffries can be a useful 10th-12th guy coming off the bench in short minutes. He's not a waste, but he shouldn't be a rotation player.
Jeffries is a body to throw into the mix if one of your regulars goes down with injury. Nothing more.
Im surprised this thread has gone this far. Knick fans are damn sure there is a rule that Jeffries cant be traded back to Knicks until 1 year has passed, meaning trade deadline. Rules change though all the time. And they have ZERO assets . Scola plays randolphs position. And so there you go, no deal. I like Douglas the pg though. But that would mean Brooks is being traded for something like Iggy or Granger.
This was down a bit from the previous year, but Yao was out the whole season. That could mean less wide open looks. With Yao back, he could creep up a bit. He was 58% TS% the year before. That seems very good to me for your defensive specialist.
