Sucky ending for the Stros but good night in the minors tonight. JD Martinez has recovered nicely after a slow start at CC, 3-4 1 hr 2 rbis and a walk. At RR Jack Shuck had a hit and a walk, BB had a nice game going 1-2 1 hr 2 walks and Melancon threw 1 2/3 of scoreless ball for the save. Melancon has been perfect so far at RR and should be a September callup if not sooner depending on Lindstrom's back.

Mier had another crappy night but did have a hit while Paredes also had only one hit but that was a two run homer. Jonathan Meyer went 1 for 2 with 3 walks.

At Lancaster, Villar is 1 for 3 with a triple and Jose Altuve is 2 for 2 with a double.

Folty got lit up though. That's like his first bad outing in quite a while though. When does Deshields start playing games?

I would move him up to Lancaster even though he probably doesn't deserve it. If he doesn't hit there then you know there is a problem and he could get moved by to Lexington but if he does then it will help his confidence and could jump start him.

Another interesting night for the "system". Carlos Lee's successor had another good night although could have been great, 2-5 but left 4 men left on base for JD Martinez. Cartwright and Clemens each went 2-5, Cartwright added 2 rbis while both left men on base. Federico Hernandez, a young catching prospect got his first action tonight at CC and got 2 hits with 2 runs scored.

At RR, Jack Shuck had 2 hits with a run scored while BB went 1-3 with a walk and run driven in. Pretty quite night for prospects at RR so I'll leave it there.

Lancaster was being shut out but as of the last update they've put a 7 spot with contributions from a bunch of people. Villar has no hits but does have a walk, Altuve is 1 for 3 with an RBI and Brandon Barnes(24) hit is 22nd HR. Barnes appears a little old to be in High A but should be at CC next season. Ross Seaton was having a nice evening and still is thru 7(I think) he has given up 2 runs and 4 hits, good to see as he has been pitching better lately minus his last start before this.

At Lexington nothing much happened, Mier still sucks but did draw a walk, Paredes got another hit and drew a walk however Jose Cisnero was the star of the night as he pitched another good game might be worth keeping an eye out from here on out.

Edit - Barnes apparently had a short stint at CC last year and it didn't go well. Hopefully another year at Lancaster did him well.

J.D. Martinez is at it again, slow start, now he's raking again.

    .325/.411/.458

    Last 10
    .387/.525/.548

Guy just flat out hits, 4th level he's been at, and he has killed at all of them.

He should be in Houston early next year.

Look who is having a nice game today, Mier is 2 for 3 with an RBI. Paredes is also 2 for 3 so its nice to see production out of those two guys. Luis Cruz, who is having a nice season and should be moved up to Lancaster next season, is throwing a 2 hit shutout thru 6 innings.

Edit - Mier ended up 3 for 5 with and rbi and 2 stolen bases, more of this would be great to see.

Interesting note - Ben Heath, the Stros 5th rd pick this season, has been moved up to Lexington already and has gone 0-2 with a walk. It appears an injury made for the call up but hopefully he can hit enough to stay up for the remainder of the season.

An nice night for some of the Stros prospects but not the names you've been used to. At RR Jack Shuck had a nice nice game going 2-4 with a walk, rbi, 2 steals and 2 runs scored. BB was hitless but got on twice and scored twice while Bazardo had an okay game giving up 4 earned over 7 and Sulti had two hits.

CC had the big performance of the night, Dallas Kuechel threw 7 2/3 of 2 run 7 so baseball. He has had 4 starts and 3 have been excellent, with another good month of baseball, he should be given a look at RR or where ever they might play AAA ball next year. Koby Clemens shares the spotlight with Kuechel with a 3-3 with a run scored and a stolen base. Gaston had a 2-run blast, Cartwright with a hit and JD Martinez had a rare hitless game.

Lancaster had a tough loss with little on the offensive side but with a nice pitching performance. Robert Donovan threw 6 innings of shutout ball only giving up 3 hits and 9 strikeouts. He had a rough first two starts at Lancaster but since has improved in his last two. Jay Austin had a triple and a walk, Ben Curtis had a homerun to continue a nice stretch of games and Brandon Barnes also had a hit and walk to his name. Villar and Altuve cooled off with a hitless game.

Please add anything I might have missed.

rockets934life, I admire your dedication and everything, but looking at minor leaguers in such detail really isn't all that worthwhile, given where most of our true prospects are currently at.

IMO, it's when you reach AA/AAA at a young age(22-23 at the latest) when gaudy stats start to matter. Too many prospects simply flame out way at lower levels that it's really hard to track their course.

Still, props for such dedication. Even at my peak baseball/Astros fandom I would not have bothered with most of the players you're following. :)

I would assume so, I know his dad had said about a month ago that he would sign but Selig told all the clubs to hold off deals till now if they would be coming in over slot.

Thanks for the kind words, honestly I would try and focus on AAA/AA talent but the lack of mlb ready players makes it REALLY hard and pretty uninteresting. I'll go as far as Lancaster and Lexington because honestly that is where the majority of prime talent is located. I really won't go out to Tri-city or Greenville unless their is a nice story to be had and won't dare touch those short season teams again unless something significant game comes of it.

To much fringe talent at the higher levels with BB, Locke, Delome, Clemens and Sulti with only a few high ceiling guys like Shuck, Lyles, Martinez, Kuechel, Cartwright and Gaston to wright about.

Thank you Rockets934life... your posts are the only thing positive and enjoyable to read about the Astros right now. I greatly appreciate you focusing on the "light" at the end of our dark baseball tunnel.

Thanks again, after the MLB draft the minors really peaked my curisoity and reading/listening to guys like Badler, Callis and Mayo on prospect just seemed really interesting. I am liking were the big club is going with Wallace, Johnson, Castro and Happ but its all about the future in my book so IMO when guys like Martinez, Shuck, BB and Gaston join them that is when things should get VERY interesting.

I should go to some Tri-city games, I found out last week they are associated with the Astros though they're a short season A team. Do you guys know if they have any talent the Astros are looking to move up?

Well, like meh said, its really hard to grasp what kind of player these guys could become but I can tell you Tyler Burnett and Ben Orloff made the Penn League all-star team. Kvasnicka was the Stros supplemental first rd pick so he is worth a look for sure, also have heard good stuff about Adamson. Pitching wise, really not sure on that but Quevedo and Martinez have had nice seasons and Bobby Doran was a 4th or 6th rd pick this past draft.
