According to this story in the Miami Herald, JVG doesn't see any problems at all with the Axis of Ego working together, or with their supporting cast not being good enough.

"They will break the single-season win record [of 72],"' Jeff Van Gundy said. "And I think they have a legit shot at the Lakers' 33-game [winning] streak [in 1971-72], as well. And only the Lakers have even a remote shot at beating them in a playoff series. They will never lose two games in a row this year."

"They have put together a much better roster than anybody could ever have expected," Van Gundy added. "There is now no good way to defend them. They are unguardable. They are indefensible. They are just too good and have added so much shooting and are so versatile that they will score at will."

"And with Erik Spoelstra coaching, they will be in the top three defensive teams in the league, as well. The other 29 teams better hope the lockout gets moved up a year."

He's leaving out one thing, the referees. Does anyone really think the Finals won't go seven games?

I thought the refs were suppose to favor Kobe and Lakers and help them win?

They said the same sort of things about the Wilt-West-Baylor combination. The Lakers were a championship contender without Wilt, and then they get him for peanuts to (supposedly) fill in their biggest weakness (center against Russell). Baylor was a bit past his prime, but West and Wilt were still in theirs.

Of course, they didn't become a dynasty. Turns out, the Celts had one last run in them, and then Kareem came into the league instantly lifting his team to championship contender status with Robertson and the Knicks became a great team, but nobody saw that coming in the summer of 1968. As Chris Berman likes to say, that's why we play the games.

Kobe, Shaq, Payton, Malone - did not work.

Hakeem, Barkley, Drexler - Did not work.

Hakeem, Pippen, Barkley - Did not work.

Chemistry is so overlooked....there is only ONE basketball.

72 games with a guy like LeBron who quit in game 5, and a guy like Bosh who is Tmac like in his pursuit of fame over wins.....and then Wade....probably the best competitor of the bunch.....but who gets the ball late, Wade or Lebron?

    Whose ego gets checked?

It is all wine and roses now, but wait until someone is up in their face guarding them.

they can may be win a 80 game
but we'll see how they respond to playoffs pressure and defense
    especially Boston
if they get to the finals let's say against the Lakers then:
Who can defend Gasol?: Big Z?!!
Kobe?may be Wade ? or James?
then Bynum or Odom: do you think Bosh is good enough to guard them?
The Heat would win if they face teams like Phoenix, but no way they can pass

    LA are still better

Evryime you put a loser like Barkley into equation it will not work.

Evryime you put a loser like Karl into equation it will not work.

Everytime you put **** into the best food inthe world, it will taske like you-know-what.

I don't worry about the Wade-James chemistry. I think these 2 are very open to each other and with great personaily. If Bosh is no ****, why not. But Chris is the dark horse here.

    exactly
it's funny how people jump to say wow this is the best team ever
it has been proven that to win you need One player to command i mean to be da man, the rest of players follow
i think that the Celtics and may be the Pistons are the exception to this
but having top 5 players in the same team!!! they will have big problems to deal with their egos
i'd rather have a well balanced team like the Lakers than this too crowded of stars team of Heat
see ya in the playoffs

Did you create this opinion for the sake of generating controversy?

Karl Malone and Charles Barkley were far from losers my friend. They just happened to be playing in an era where Jordan was dominating year after year.

Most of those guys were getting older though.

Lebron, Bosh, Wade have 6 years together and spending most of those years in their prime.

The point is that you can not combine Alpha Males and expect it to work, someone has to sugjegate their game and ultimately fame for the good of the team.

None of these guys (outside of Wade) has done that.

Do you think Lebron and his "Look at me" attitude can do it? What about Bosh and his "Follow me on Twitter" can do it?

The first time these guys see adversity and the finger pointing comes out....they will fall apart like cheap corn bread.

I'm sure both of them did not play for only 6 years if you know what i mean.

    Thomas beat Jordan.

Bird and Magic were both dominant but they found a way to win and beat each other.
