Obama Plans New Rules as For-Profit Colleges Mobilize (Update2)
    http://www.businessweek.com/news/20...as-for-profit-colleges-mobilize-update2-.html

The tougher rules, which are expected to be released for public comment in the next several weeks, would require ITT Educational Services Inc., Career Education Corp. and Apollo Group Inc.’s University of Phoenix to show that their graduates earn enough money to pay off their student loans. If for-profit colleges can’t meet the standard, they could lose federal financial aid, which typically makes up three-quarters of their revenue.

The proposed rules may disqualify for-profits from receiving federal financial aid if their graduates must spend more than 8 percent of their starting salaries on repaying student loans. The regulations may slow or even halt tuition increases at ITT, Education Management Corp., Lincoln Educational Services, Universal Technical Institute, and Career Education because many graduates take low-paying jobs in criminal justice, cooking and medical office work, Trace Urdan, an analyst at Signal Hill Capital Group in San Francisco, said in an interview.

No who would of thunk a for-profit degree was really worth nothing?. Theres no easy way in life, if people think they can skim by on education and enroll in a school later on that has absolutely no admission standards, they're sadly mistaken.

But really a $70,000 degree? Are you serious? We're talking about a bottom of the line school here.

I said higher education. If colleges maintain their standards then the only thing to worry about is fair competition. You don't blame dumb people for getting degrees, you blame the university.

Yet their long term prospects still look better than the woman who is 70k in debt.

You also have to factor in that some people are just socially r****ded. Interviews count for a lot. If you can't hack an interview, you won't get hired. They are seeing if you are someone they want to spend every day of the week with. If not, doesn't matter where your degree is from.

Obama Plans New Rules as For-Profit Colleges.

Both MIT and Rice are non-profit.

Yes, isn't it curious that he hasn't posted in this thread. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

9k is Full pell grant plus Stafford loans per semester. All of these programs charge the same amount per semester, odd coincidence, huh?

Great News! Obama gets a lot of ****, but it seems mostly unfounded. This is exactly the type of thing he should be encouraging.

    This.

Unless you want to get into teaching kids the finer aspects of finger painting, then there isn't much you can do with this. And even if that is what you wanted to do, a degree from there is pretty iffy.
