McGrady wasted the prime years of a large group of NBA fans -- those years are never coming back.

His Orlando years were certainly wasted, in that 03 series that he took so much flak for saying he was glad to be in the 2nd round. The next best players on that team were Drew Gooden and Gordon Giricek and he managed to make that a 7 game series with the Pistons.

Having said that, much of the hatred he receives is deserved. He showed himself to be capable of elite level defense, but he was often too lazy to put in the effort on that end. And offensively he could drive to the basket at will, but he was often too lazy on that end too, so he settled for jumpers. And he never showed and real heart when it came to fighting through injuries.

T-Mac was a truly great talent that could have done a lot more, his combo of length, quickness, court vision and shooting ability should have made him an unstoppable offensive force. But he never really showed the work ethic to become a Kobe level player, so wasted years is a relative term McGrady, was never gonna lead a team to a title.

Tmac woulda atleast get to the conference finals with a good supporting cast while playing in Orlando. If Grand Hill stayed healthy to play along with him, he would be in the second round for sure.

there has never been a player with his combination of length (6'9", 7'2" wingspan), athleticism (speed, quickness & 40" vertical) & skillset (bball iq, shooting, dribbling, court vision & passing) and there may never be again.

his biggest fault is his mouth and his low fg% (because he took too many contested long jump shots). this is a shot that you should only take when the shot clock is running down and there are no other options (of course this was tmac's favourite shot)

just appreciate all the great memories he gave to the fans.

Whatever else, he was definitely unlucky to be stuck with complementary star players with injury issues in both Orlando and Houston. How many seasons and missed opportunities is that?

Well who was he going to pass the ball to? The only other player that could make a shot was on the bench in a suit.

He's better than any of them. But he hasn't proven he could play with a post player to date. The Orlando magic team, as bad as it was, maximized his stats. He never got anything close to that once he teamed up with YM. His efficiency went down since YM clogged the lane quite a bit. He showed he's not a clutch player and he didn't have the stamina to play both ends of the floor for an entire series.

McGrady was damn good, but his supporting cast? Did they even show up for the games? I thought they just randomly selected fans prior to the game to fill the roster.

    Learn somethin' new every day
