I tend to believe that Hayes will end up being our 2nd PF and 3rd C. Hill just isn't as good as Hayes is, judging by what I saw last year. I didn't catch the Summer League, so I know nothing of Patterson or if Hill has improved at all, but as of the end of last season, Chuck is a considerably better NBA player than Hill.

I hope Hill or Pat prove me wrong and just explode this season, since it would make the team that much better, but as of right now, consider me a Chuck fan.

I don't believe in instant contending. We have to first go to the WC finals before that.

Hill is a second year player and Patterson a leadership rookie....an NBA ready rookie.

We should really get rid of Jared ASAP.

JJ won't see any time. His trade value doesn't change with his playing abilty.

I suspect Hill will see a lot of time as the back 4, paired up with Miller. Against other teams 2nd line, that should be fine defensively, and provide an inside/outside look. Plus, I think Miller can help Hill develop.

Chuck + Miller doesn't really make a ton a sense, and PP will develop just fine with the Vipers. Unless your an absolute star or fill a position of need, Morey/Adleman seem to want to use the Vipers instead of letting you rot on the bench. The only rookies who didn't follow that mold was Budinger and Hill, since they had to fill needs right away. Hill was less of a need, but perhaps he provided some energy in the front court that was lacking, plus he needed to play for confidence.

I do think PP will be in the rotation after the trade deadline though, but so much can happen between now and then.

    I'm starting a new saying:

    In Adelman we trust.

The guy knows how and when to develop young talent. Proof: Brooks, Landry, Bud, even Von Wafer.

IMO - he's a top 5 coach in the league. Morey is a top 5 GM. We're lucky to have them.

regardless of what actually happens to our rotation, i believe it would be in their best interest to play patterson this season and see how he develops as a player. we should only use chuck and jared sparingly when needed on defense as we all already know what they can only bring.

Morey says that every year about rookies, but that isn't how it has worked out.

I think a lot will depend on what happens in the preseason. I see Hill primarily as a 3rd string center, he may get some good minutes early in the season since Yao will playing few minutes at the start of the season.

I think Patterson may get quite a few minutes as the main backup to Scola. The preseason will be very important for Patterson to prove he is ready for the NBA. If he doesn't perform well early on, then the D-league would make sense.

I think Adelman really likes what Jeffries can do on the defensive end of the court, so I see him getting some good minutes on nights when we need the defense he can provide.

I don't see Chuck getting many minutes. He may not play at all for long stretches of the season, but he is a good guy to have just in case someone goes down.

Sooner you than me!! I pray that Adelman will try to give the youngest players with potential a chance to develop this potential. If he does he will have a much fresher team come playoff time and a Yao Ming still doing what he does best. :p

    I am not so sure.

Adelman is a good coach but there were tons of times when I really disagreed with what he was doing.

He was playing Yao way too many minutes. Didnt give Taylor/Hill enough playing time in a clear rebuild year. Didnt reign in Ariza. Etc. etc.

I don't think so, I think Adelman like young players, and IMO Hill is better than Jeffries.

The 07-08 Lakers didn't go to the WC finals first, they became instant contenders... but then again they got Pau Gasol and we got, well.. Brad Miller..

Although the lineups are different, talent wise we're just as good, bench is not comparable... anyway, you don't HAVE TO go deep first you can be instant contenders.. and remember we already have gone deep 7 games in the second round.. last year was just injuries this year is different we're even better than that second round team so it wouldn't be "came out the gutter, took it to the goal line straight from the huddle" kinda thing... jus' sayin' ;)

I don't get this. Why would we sit Hill (as 3rd C) and play Pat? It's not like Hill can't play the backup PF role, and sitting him on the bench would ruin his value. Pat can sit for a while and visit the D League Unless the quality of play is drastically different, go with Hill, IMO.

Wait till the trade deadline to make a change.

Unless there is a big hole at the position (like when Scola first came), rookies don't usually play that much on this team. But Chuck and Jared seem to be one dimensional specialists though, which I think with break out games Hill and Pat can become the primary backups.

With the talent we have I don't see Jared playing much unless athletic PFs are out muscling Scola (Chuck Hayes time) and are blowing past/shooting over Chuck Hayes on D. Chuck and Jared I think be defensive specialists to stop the bleeding if our other forwards are getting handled (Chuck will probably get the most minutes of the two.)

Hill and Pat have the most natural gifts, and if they both can improve during the season defensively, I think Rick might go with them as the primary backups. Pat seems to have the better work ethic and tougher character (His dad was ex-military and he was already the star in Kentucky before Calipari brought Wall and Cousins with him)

It seriously took me a minute to remember Jared Jefferies was on our team  I was like who the hell is Jared.

I see them splitting the mins, Patterson and Hill brings athleticism and offense, while Hayes and Jefferies provides good fundamentals and defense.

i still want chuck to see playing time, but hell no to jared jefferies unless he never shoots the ball. hell, chuck hayes even a better offensive player than jefferies from what iv'e seen this past season. at least chuck hayes can score an easy layup unlike jefferies.

I hear what you are saying, but after watching the summer league games I have a good feeling about Patterson, and I'm not so high on Hill anymore. I liked what Hill did for us last year, but I see Patterson as a more polished offensive player. I would love to see both of these players make big contributions in the future. It's going to be fun to watch all these guys this year, I wish the season started tomorrow.

To those that say they'll choosing a lineup according to their opponents, I highly doubt that for some reason. I think by doing that you're sending awkward messages to those players. If Hayes only plays against the good teams, he'll be like, "Hold up, why are you only gonna use me when you need me? You're telling me that I'm the best option by that and yet you're not playing me. I want playing time damn it!"

we've ENTITLED players. no need to prove anything on court.

give 'em whats due per their entitlement. never played a minute of NBA ball? pencil in 2Pat fer 30 mins ...

^silly game. we'll play folks that gives us the best chance to win & let players earn playing time.

    revolutionary concept.

I agree. my gut tells me Patterson will have more of an impact this season than Hill. I think Hill will need at least another season to figure out the big-man game. Good thing he's got a ton of good mentors on the team (Sikma, Miller, Yao, Hayes).
