i think they're pretty smart to put the rockets as the opening game...think of all the fans waiting in China to watch Yao's first game back since the injury, which just happens to be against the same team he played his last game against before the injury. This will be great! GO ROCKETS

We always play the Lakers pretty well. There is no reason we can't steal that first game there as our guys will be super motivated to play the reigning champs.

yeah and most teams who just had the ring ceremony start off slow.

I expect us to blow them out early.

Damn right about it. I remember the Heat getting clobbered in their season openner after winning their chip. Too lazy to look up, but I think the lost the game by more than 20.

It was by nearly 40, and the dynamics of that Heat team and this Laker team are way too different. I expect a competitive first half, and whoever comes out sharper in the 3rd quarter to win it. It'll be a good game.

No, I say Yao does some even more unreal like a line of 16 pts, 14 reb, 10 blocks, 5 assists in only 20 minutes.

The last 10 results of pervious season's champions on opening night:

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Los Angeles Clippers W 99-92
Boston Celtics vs. Cleveland Cavaliers W 90-85
San Antonio Spurs vs. Portland Trailblazers W 106-97
Miami Heat vs. Chicago Bulls L 66-108
San Antonio Spurs vs. Denver Nuggets W 102-91
Detroit Pistons vs. Houston Rockets W 87-79
San Antonio Spurs vs. Phoenix Suns W 83-82
Los Angeles Lakers vs. San Antonio Spurs L 82-87
Los Angeles Lakers vs. Portland Trailblazers W 98-87
Los Angeles Lakers vs. Portland Trailblazers W 96-86

    8-2
It's easy to remember the 40-pt loss by the Heat.

I think we can do it though. Should be a great game.

So this is more of a question for me (being in Charleston).

Does this mean this game may actually be nationally broadcast (in the US..not just China)?

I mean Lakers ring celebration, Yao's 1st game back (hopefully), etc. I would think would draw a national audience.

Last time we won in L.A, Gasol wasn't playing...but we didn't have Yao either..

Hopefully Yao is fully healthy by then

lol the doom and gloom here is almost hysterical.

the champs always open at home. 1/2 the rest of the NBA opens on the road.

this matchup on opening night has EVERYTHING to get excited for.

It's not in Houston the Lakers are the defending champs. So they'll be having the whole ring celebration crap.

And who else would they have picked. With Yao's return and it being the prime-time opening game of the season what other game would draw the most the attention worldwide.

The Chinese love basketball there's like some 400 million fans of the nba game over there. Just another reason to come to Houston. So of course there gonna tune in for the return of their country number one sports icon.

I told my wife this would be one of the season opening games just because of the rating it would get. And here it is.

let me make this predection here about the NBA schedule, the Heat and the Lakers will play about 80% of their games at home during the first two months of the season, so they can get a good start, NBA, where "protecting their investments happen"...

What's new the Lakers are always at home for there first fifteen out of twenty games at home while everyone else is road dogging it. So they can build up there division lead.
Still don't mean they're not opening there season with an L.

    Rockets for the Win!

actually the Lakers schedule is home heavy due to the busy schedule of the Staples Center during the peak of the NBA and NHL seasons, combined with world tour concerts and an entire two week window when they are setting up for the Grammy's.

    but I like your spirit!
