i wish stuff like this happened more often these days, the other team would just watch in amazement if that was lebron.
If players did that in today's game they would be suspended a whole bunch of games. If Ainge did that in this years playoffs he would probably be suspended for the rest of the playoffs.
Given how that series went down at the fact that the dunk was perfectly within the confines of the rules of the game, you can't fault him. Ainge on the other hand reacted inappropriately by breaking one of the Man Rules, that being, if you're gonna go after somebody do it to their face, you don't cheap shot them.
Hakeem would have held back kicking his ass Mitch Kupchak style, Hakeem had learned how to control his temper at that point of his career. But Ainge would have probably faced a retaliation next game, like someone like MadMax throwing an elbow at him. And you'd have a pissed off Hakeem that's going to try to score 50 on the Suns. Ainge has never acted like a man throughout his NBA career, he was the more successful version of Sasha Vujabitch back then.
Nothing wrong with the dunk, but Ainge should still get an ass-beating for that classless move, he was clearly doing it on purpose.
IF this was a regular season game with no major implication other than a win then maybe but this got them to the next round .... playoffs is ALL about statements and this was hakeems way of making it.. dream would always do stuff like this .. remember the 3s he would take if the game was in hand .. he meant no disrespect it was just he only played around when the game was in hand ... you have to look at the guys character too b4 u decide if he was being classless and hakeem was full of class
Ainge is a PUNK ALWAYS A PUNK now he is a punk g.m. that fact is the only good thing about the final's is that punk got beat by a more talented jerk
Really? Ainge is not a punk GM. The towel incident was a little much, but he's done a decent job in Boston. More than decent, actually. Bringing guys like Ray Allen and KG together to win a ring and return to the finals two years later is awesome in my book. Maybe his personality sucked as a player, but not as a GM.
Ainge got fined for that...I don't think he got suspended. I vividly remember listening to Elie on a local radio interview during the playoffs that year. I think it was 740am back then. Elie was super class man...he said he was so pissed off and wanted to fight but he kept thinking about the consequences and how getting himself suspended would hurt team and their playoff run, so he sucked it up and didn't lose control. Man, I loved that team.
I was reading your quotes from Dream in your signature and I hadn't read the one about the ball in the trunk. He used to live near me in the rich section of Old Oaks and worked out and played with us at Pritikin. He would tell us never to come over to his house without your gear (sneakers, swim suit, and a ping pong paddle) because you never know. With his brothers there, two of the three always happened. He is a beast with a ping pong paddle.
I said there was probably no possible way the Suns could have come back, but that finishing them off with a dunk, is fine. The dunk isn't flashy, and there is no taunting associated with it.
people weren't as sensitive and didn't care about being politically correct back then as they are in todays world
