He has every right to explode in rage at what happened. What a tragedy.

I don't have a problem with a rapist getting a long sentence, but I do obviously have a problem with an innocent man getting convicted. When we see cases like this you have to wonder how in the world we still have the death penalty.

I agree with the death penalty in theory, but not in practice. If I was governor of a death penalty state, I think I'd have to commute each and every one. My conscience wouldn't let me do anything else, especially with such ridiculously high levels of f*** ups.

And I don't think the guy had a right to act any way he wanted, but I certainly can't say I blame him. I don't know the particulars here but I think I'd be one very lenient, patient judge in this case.

This whole damn thing is sad.

That is a stupid comment. And the tragedy is that we will never know because he sat in prison for 27 of what would have been his most productive years.

This is nitpicking but technically he is not innocent. He was on his way to a bond hearing and as the original article notes he still is awaiting a rehearing on his original conviction.

I'm guessing the bailiffs were just following procedure and procedure is a convict is handcuffed when brought into a hearing. In this case this guy is wrongfully convicted but until he is officially exonerated he is still a convict.

THis is what I've been saying for a long time. We have a far from perfect justice system and until we do, something that will likely never happen, we should avoid the ultimate sanction.

Yeah, they were probably just following procedure. But, in this case they should have thought to make an exception. What's he going to do, kill the bailiff and make a run for it?

As for how much money he would have made in those 27 years, it depends on what he's willing to sacrifice. If a company was offering a job that required you to stay on premises all the time, adhere to a strict daily schedule, severely curtail contact with family, disallow any sex with anyone except other men at the same job, and the contract was ironclad for decades -- how much would you have to pay to find a willing candidate? $80k/yr wouldn't get you a single applicant. So, he's getting paid below market value. But, it doesn't much matter. Being paid fairly probably wouldn't make it any better either.

So a black man gets convicted on shoddy evidence, I wonder if it would have happened to a white man if the circumstances were exactly the same.

Jeez, this is seriously devastating, i'm not even 27 years old... that is ridiculous..and i mean the dude in the video doesn't even seem phased..

that blows my mind...it's sad cause' he probably will be back...

and i dont think he deserves it but, living more then half your life with a bunch of stone cold criminals, and leaving there with probably the most anger anyone could ever have? the dude was robbed of his LIFE..

i know im just repeating what everyone has said, but this hurts my heart man.

I will admit most racial issues now of days are not always racial issues but their class issues with the poor being treated like a 3rd class citizen. In this case though you have to ask yourself who was he charge with raping and what were the demographics of the judge and jurors. To you I have to ask how old are you because there is something to be said about not understanding what racism is if you never been involved in a racist situation.
