yeah, i'm sure he's going to be our 3rd baseman of the future. don't kid yourselves folks...if those are the 2 players (which i'll bet they are), they are both worthless.
How can you say that about a young A ball ss/3b guy??? You may be and probably are right but at the same time you NEVER know when a guy hits it big.
Or you could turn it around and say that those scrub journeymen just got you Lance Berkman. Not bad....
If Lance is demanding that they don't pick up his option as part of the trade and they are paying all of his remaining salary, there is no reason to expect any good prospects.
astros should have just told him he's silly to demand that, because we arent signing him next year. guess that cant tell him that if they are planning on signing him though. it feels like this franchise is taking a waaay larger step back than it should be, no?
Yea I know, thats why I said your probably right but hey I will choose to look at the positive side of the move HOWEVER the money portion, if true, does make me scratch my head.
That my point. Why send all that money if you aren't getting crap? That's my biggest issue with the Oswalt trade as well. D-Backs sent Haren to the Angles for 4 players and they send NO money to the Angles.
I'm going to withhold judgment for now. Maybe Wade intends to flip one or both of them like he did Gose.
This is interesting.... BNightengale #mlb Curiously, Lance Berkman had recently exercised his no-trade rights for possible deal with White Sox before accepting Yankees' trade
As much as trading Oswalt and Berkman could have been a big boost to our rebuilding process (which we are obviously doing regardless of how McLane wants to put it), the bulk of the work will come through scouting, drafting and signing players, both in the standard draft and internationally. If Wade and his staff end up having done well in the past few drafts and continue to do so going forward, with McLane continuing to support this new direction, it will benefit the team more than anything they could've done in these 2 trades. A philosophical change toward scouting, drafting, signing and developing players within the farm system is the most important thing that can happen to get things going in the right direction. Then, they can one day use free agency to plug in holes instead of having too many holes to fill and without depleting the farm system. Getting talent and depth of talent in the minors is the core to team building, even for most of the higher payroll teams.
That is interesting but prob. no big deal since the Sox farm sucks and Puma apparently wants any team to guarantee they won't pick up his option. This trade is good for Puma and it save McLane some dollars, which I have no problem with, esp. if he continues to draft and sign players like has the last few years.
