I like your train of thought, but I don't think that will be enough to get a deal done. If it is, awesome and great idea. My main reasons for thinking otherwise are... 1) NO will want to unload Okafor's salary with Paul. 2) They're in need of help at the 1 and we don't have any centers available (Chuck and Hill aren't Centers) 3) Any deal needs to blow them COMPLETELY out of the water. Lateral trades won't be in their best interest. They're under new management and if they give up their only star player, ticket sales will go down making a "lateral" trade a poor financial decision, even if they do get a few quality pieces for rebuilding. 4) We need to beat out every other offer. Especially those Eastern Conference teams can put together. So, continuing on your train of thought, I'd try this... Rockets - Hornets Trade Plus NY's 1st Round Pick outright & $3 Million NO gets a 3 young pieces that fill needs/add youth, expiring contracts, a presumable lottery pick and cash. Houston could run this rotation (under the circumstances that NO buys out Shane and we sign him for the Vet Min.) Yao/Miller/Okafor Scola/Okafor/Hayes Budinger/Battier Martin/Brooks Paul/Lowry

Nah. You make him 6th man. Without Landry, you may see more of Ab and Lowry in the backcourt. Otherwise, Taylor needs to bring it in the training camp to get minutes in an already deep backcourt.
The NBA is all about superstars. One superstar is greater than 2 good players. IMO, there are 4 superstars in the NBA: Kobe, Lebron, Wade, and CP3. It is impossible for Houston to get one of the other 3. So we have to give up whatever we can to get a guy like CP3. Remember who our GM is? Remember how we got Aaron Brooks, Kyle Lowry, Carl Landry, Kevin Martin and Luis Scola? These guys are easy for a GM of Morey's skills to uncover. So we get Chris Paul even if it guts the team because we know Morey can quickly recover and get us more guys like Brooks and Landry. In summary, it is relatively easy for a good GM to get good players, but much luck and high lotto picks are required to get a superstar.
Well, in the scenario I proposed (Just so that everyone knows I'm speaking hypothetically ), you'd be giving up your depth at SG and your potential 3rd PG if Brooks is traded. But, I'd only trade Brooks if he netted us another star level player. In which case, you'd have to pair his contract with a larger one to move it. You also have to consider the fact that Chase would have to be part of the trade for the other team to budge. The only way that would work is by initially trading him in a 3-way trade. Maybe NBA 2K11 will let me do this trade: NBA 2K11
