Dont you get mad and tell people off ON THIS SITE who piss you off? If CF gave you a 27 year ban from the internet, when you got back you'd just act respectful and go along with it accordingly?

And then all the CF people will think "eh, he'll just get banned again....(douche).*

I would raise hell. What would piss me off even more is the indignation at me being "emotional".. as if they did me a favor by robbing 27 years of my life. Does anyone realize how much the world has changed since 1983? Not to mention friends and family dying, marrying, moving on, etc.

What in your estimation besides possible misdemeanors like public intoxication will put him back in?

I hear he is going to get a one time payment of 2 million dollars (80 grand for every year he's been locked up)

Still not enough. If I were him I'd find a way to squeeze every dollar he can, file a suit, cause mayhem, etc.

I don't think you can file suit in TX for being locked up wrongly

Would anyone here take that deal?

I sure as hell wouldn't give up 27 years of my life for that amount.

Just imagine all the resentment that festers in the soul for 27 years of false imprisonment. This sounds like the start of a bad horror movie.

I'm just joking, obviously... but still... 27 years of false imprisonment? I think I'd have a bone to pick.

Well, that's not a deal you take if you know it up front. The fact that he was falsely imprisoned for 27 years is something he couldn't control and is something that he can't change. The monetary reimbursement at the end of it, however empty it may seem, is better than nothing at all (along with his freedom).

I bet a lot of that money goes towards drugs. I doubt you could be in prison for 27 years and not get involved in something along those lines.

After reading that blog post by the guy who spent 2 years in prison, I can't imagine 27 years AND knowing you are innocent. I do wonder what this guy is going to do with his life though...

I'm kind of just amazed that that's where your mind went. Or that that's what you felt like talking about.

All I could think when I read this thread was what a fricking shame it was. And then all I could think was to wish this poor guy all the luck and happiness he can squeeze out of the rest of his life.

And you've got him going back to prison for another crime he hasn't committed. How cynical.

I have a bad feeling it could go that way, but who is to blame? The system or the person? If he were to commit a crime due to 27 years of solitude imposed on him by the system, then doesn't it follow that the system is partly to blame for possible future crimes? Quite ironic isn't it...

I really can't understand giving a guy a life sentence for rape when there is no physical evidence, as is obviously the case in these situations where the physical evidence eventually proves them innocent.

Are you sure? Eighty thousand per year is not a ridiculous sum that's beyond the realm of possibility for most people. About one-quarter of the US population has a household income of at least $80k per year.

Why does that even matter? As somebody already stated, how do you put a price on what you missed, relatives and friends coming and going, simply.....a quarter and probably more of your life? Potential earnings is a moot point really.

Amen. If I had exactly 2 million dollars, I would gladly trade it for an extra 27 years of a healthy life. Also, he was in prison, not a coma, so not only did he missed out, he was being punished. When the dollar figures are in the 8s, then we can talk.
