drayton isnt going to go from being stingy as can be, and wanting a big haul in this trade, to paying them 11MM to take his pride and joy, and not getting a primo prospect in return.
The Phillies get the Astros to pay $11 million of the the $23 million remaining on Oswalt's contract, and they don't have to give up Jonathan Singleton. Wow Ed Wade, Tal Smith, and Drayton McLane are dumber than any of us expected.
Going to lunch, hope I don't lose that same lunch when I come back and read the results of this madness.
He does, but he also has a history of overvaluing certain types of players (middle relievers, speedy outfielders). And when you combine that with the Astros' oft-repeated organizational mantra (speed and defense!!!) over the past few years, it's enough to make me worry when I see a report with Gose as a centerpiece.
Obviously I'm not in Philly, but so tifwiw: from MLBTR comments: Philly radio station says its Happ, Worley, Gose.
Wow this could turn into yet another HUGE letdown ... Hold on to Roy and find something else for him later after the deadline if need be
I'd bet my entire Roth IRA that no matter who the Astros get in return, the geniuses on the interwebz will loudly proclaim the Astros front office to be staffed by cheapskates and dumbasses who have no clue what they are doing. Ed Wade has compiled an extensive resume as a MLB GM and drafted numerous players who've gone on to start at the major league level. He's made a number of trades for both the Astros and Phillies and he's cut his teeth as a scout. I think he has a pretty pretty pretty /larry david idea of what he's doing. Don't let the Ed Wade is a Big Fat Idiot narrative fool you.
TAP. THE. BRAKES. You have no idea who the prospects are but you've got your gun cocked and pointed at the Astros front office. Think about it rationally. Do you really believe the Astros would pay all that money just to make Gose the centerpiece when they already have Bourn, Bourgeious, and Jay Austin?
dont know about the prospects you guys are getting, but cant believe how much you're chipping in to help pay. yea, philly needs that money to help make the deal happen, but wow...11 mill? crazy
