Not sure why people are complaining about their wings when Donte Greene has enormous potential. 6'11", good lord.
Oh really ..? do you think they can contend with Omri Casspi, Donte greene and Francisco Gracia..? will they get themto the next level..?? no they can't, ohh and let just say they make trades do you think any star player will even consider playing for the kings ....? It's pretty clear who is high buddy.
You never know with young guys. On nba live im sure they develop into a nice team on dynasty mode, but it doesnt always happen that way in real life. Some guys premier guys aren't going to want to play on a team with a pg like Evans. A few quick things come to mind 1. Cousins could develop into a primetime player and demand the ball more and it could be a kg - starbury situation 2. Cousins/Whiteside a new version of the Eddie Curry/Tyson Chandler situation? You draft two hight potiental lottery pick big men..... One of them has to turn out to be worth something, right? Wrong... One cant even get it together off the court, and the other never seem to be able to put all his skill and athleticism together to be a great player. Just saying... ya never know
I think their future is bright. Having Evans and Cousins as your building blocks doesn't seem like a bad start. Evans Casspi Greene Landry Cousins Not a bad starting 5.
You can't have star players at every position. That's not to say Casspii and Garcia aren't as solid as they get without being star players. Donte Greene still has a chance to blossom into a star. He's still young, raw and oozing with potential. Chris Webber didn't want to be traded their but he enjoyed it and had success once he got there. They have great owners in the Maloofs and a top 10 fan base that's loyal even with their ****ty record over the past few seasons.
Are you refering to his height or wingspan? Neither are 6'11'. He's 6'9 with a 6'10 wingspan, but that's still not bad at all for a SF. No one said anything about contending only. The question was if they're future was bright. They're not built to contend in the future as of now, but they are definitely built to be a consistent playoff team. In 2-3 years the spurs will be gone from the playoff picture, as well as Dallas and Phoenix. Denver is a possibility as well. Of course any of them can get lucky and rebuild quickly, but it's unlikely. That's 4 spots that will get easier to attain in the West. Houston, clippers, Sac, and GS are in positions to take over those spots between now and then. Lakers may be on the downhill by then as well. So if they can be a consistent playoff contender, wouldnt that be a bright future? Garcia isn't in their long term plans at his age. Why would you even focus on one of their back ups as someone who can "take them to the next level"? Focus on Landry, JT, Evans, and Cousins. Casspi is a solid piece as the Ariza in their starting lineup. Why wouldnt a star player want to go there? If there's money available there's no reason they wouldnt.
This particular roster has a low ceiling. Lots of individual talent, but that isn't the way you build a great NBA team, they'll make the playoffs with this bunch, maybe even compete for homecourt, but never a legit title threat. Tyreke Evans will at best be Steve Francis, not a PG, not skilled enough to be a great SG, a gunner nothing more. DeMarcus Cousins, has the ability to be great, but I haven't seen the mind or the desire to realize that potential, an Al Jefferson type. Carl Landry, I love the guy, real good offensive player, but the rest of his game has been exposed, a poor rebounder, can't create for others, bad defender, can't handle a double team. Jason Thompson, again, real good player, but doesn't have the offensive talent to be a great offensive player Omri Casspi, reminds me of a million other european players in the league, good shooter, solid offensive game, suspect defense, not a difference maker The team clearly has a lot of good talent, but don't see a player that can demand a double team and create for others (which is why Yao is so important to us)great individual talent, does not a great team make, if it did the Hawks would be a title contender. The only hope i see is pooling assets to acquire a great player ala what the Celtics did, but I can't see a great player wanting to go to Sacramento, so I don't see a light at the end of the end of the tunnel for them. (although I could be wrong about Cousins personality, and that could change everything for them)
...that's not a good sign when that 'hard to fill' PG position is filled by a guy who doesn't shoot or pass well. Obviously Tyreke has been effective despite that, but let's call it what it is - he is a big SG masquerading at the point because he is only effective with the ball in his hands because he can't play off the ball. Obviously I'm not sold on Tyreke as a long term guy you can build a team around. I LOVE Cousins on talent but that attitude worries me a lot. I would say the Kings are the Thunder without the all for one "team" concept....chemistry is seriously underrated. Look at those 3 dudes playing together in Miami.
I mostly agree with everything written here except I do think they have guys who can command a double team. The biggest problem for them as a long term contender is chemistry. This isn't a team of pieces that meshes well - more like a collection of best guys available. That's no knock on the Kings - they have done a good job of getting value out of the draft - it's just the hand they were dealt. If I were them though, I would entertain trading some guys to get more appropriate pieces in a year or two. One of the coolest things a team like OKC has done in the last few years is they have drafted for potential, got a future star, and then started building a team around him which has often meant they haven't taken the best available guy but rather guys who fit that team(Hardin is a great example). The Kings should start shaping their team starting now by using these young guys while their value talent vs potential is at it's highest. Maybe trade a guy like Caspi to another lotto team for a future first and another young piece who fits their team better. I think teams tend to hold on to young talent too long and their value decreases as teams start to figure out their potential has been reached.
Petrie has been one of the better GMs in the league for the past 12 years. IMO they are a PG away from being very dangerous. C: Dalembert/ Cousins/ Whiteside PF: Landry/ Thompson/ Jackson How many teams are that loaded with bigmen?!
It's true - the Maloofs are known to be big spenders and player friendly. I don't see them having a problem getting a big name FA come to Sac in the right situation....clearly though the Kings are using the draft to rebuild rather than the "all in" FA strategy NY, NJ, and MIA were using this past year.
It's all about Evans and Cousins. They are the potential franchise players. The rest of those guys are just role players who will come and go as the Evans and Cousins grow. Evans is a SG. But the thing about the top SG in the league is that they also double as PG. Kobe and Wade can get their shot and pass it to the open man. In order to be a great SG you need to possess PG skills and I'm not sure if Evans has that. Cousins is going to be a beast. Look at the centers in the west, Duncan, Yao, Bynum, Oden. Old age and injuries are making the West center position look weak. Cousins may be the best center in the West by 2012.
the team looks good on paper, but the ? is well all these guys want to stay in sac town and will there be enough money to go around?
I love this team...I always root for them when they aren't playing the Rockets. I've been talking about how they're on the rise for a while now and everyone's been calling me insane until now. They are lookin good
the fact is its still sacramento, sure its the capital of cali, but its a a second or a third rate city, not trying to be mean but you can debate that cleveland is a better city than sac town
'NBA.com' doesn't always list players by their proper height... Draftexpress has the real measurements: 2008 NBA Draft measurements --RB
I guess he's young enough to still have some growing to do, but then again, NBA.com tends to add an inch or 2 to players' heights.
