Out of the available pool he probably is the best. Before everyone got signed I would have said Ronnie Brewer. We don't really need a backup SG with Lowry, JT and Shane on the bench. Why we are even thinking about this is beyond me.
I agree that Chase is more is a 3 but till they move Battier they only way he will get to see playing time is if he plays the 2. Battier,Chase,Taylor; one of these guys is going to be dnpcd and believe me it wont be Chase or Battier.
Also wanted to add that Brooks is a better backup 2 guard then then Taylor. Aaron only plays about 24 minutes a game at the point the rest of his minutes he plays at the 2. there are 48 minutes at the 2 spot. I can see 34 going to Martin, the other 14 minutes will be spread between Aaron and Chase. Thats how I see it shaking out unless Taylor really shines in training camp.
I think Jermaine Taylor is ready to fill that role off the bench after Martin. As a matter of fact, he is perfect for it.
JT had some great moments towards the end of last season defense wise. He matched up well with Kobe freaking Bryant. He moved his feet and used his athleticism to play what I would call adequate defense numerous times. I think Rick knows that JT can be very useful off the bench and I think this is going to be his season.
JT gets a lot of hate on the boards because of his non-passing ability. So what, he is not that much of a passer, he made Kobe pass!!!
The backup to K-Mart is obviously Chase Budinger and the Rockets love to play the Aaron Brooks and Kyle Lowry dual PG backcourt which works out GREAT! Then if all else fails there will be Jermaine Taylor probably in the D-League or on the end of the bench.
