 If that story is true he'd be one of the best shotblockers of all time. Head above the rim at 7'5"?

The tough thing about bones is that it's a rare thing for them to ever totally heal to pre-injury strength. And that's ignoring the other issue: the bones in his foot didn't break by freak random accident; they broke because they couldn't hold up to the stress he applies to them playing basketball with his frame.

We have to really cross our fingers that the reshaping in the last surgery will make the difference, otherwise it's just a countdown.

Same here. I can't recall just what happened, but something did. Too bad.

Is this so? Somehow I recall hearing that bones can heal to be stronger than pre-injury.

I seem to remember he either lost his job or the company he reported for quit covering the Rox.

I don't remember exactly but he was a big asset for Clutchfans in the beginning of the Yao era.

His ego got in the way. He started attacking anyone else who tried to give Yao news and a lot of people turned against him because of this. He was actually a huge prick towards the end. It's probably a good thing he left -- the reputation system would have put his self-absorbed self on steroids.

I believe after he swore off to never post here again he still posted on YaoMingMania or whatever that site was called. I never followed that site, so I have no idea if he's still around.

This is an important fact if the latest injury was not caused by trauma (e.g. contact with another player) as you posted. We better start drafting centers and develop them.

(As far as I'm aware) Not along the fracture sites, unless it happens while at/before puberty. Certainly not in Yao's case, when he developed a non-union.

People were rude to him, typical, if you ask me, and he could not take it and left.

it depends on how much faith you are willing to put on modern medical technology. you're right his foot injury has nothing to do with any drauma. it has sth to do with his foot shape. he has higher arch than normal ppl which cuases one bone (???) inside his foot to take more body weight than any other bones. high pressure caused the fracture on that bone. he had similar problem as big Z did. w/ similar surgery as big Z, the doctor reshaped his foot so body weight can be spread over his all bones instead focusing one or two bones. reshape definitely helps to reduce the possibility of another fracture. it is all what i understand as an ordinary person. i am not a medical expert.

i see. now i can understand why. it's still a common practice here or on any other rox boards. no one gives a **** to any news from china.

but the funny thing is all of us took the **** from chinese media this time. we all jumped on ship and smelt sth that some ppl likes to smell.

Yes. Yao injured his left ankle several times. Even the latest bone fracture was considered as an "old injury" by Chinese reporters. But it's just the nature of professional athletes. If no record of injuries, he's not a pro.
Yao may never be as strong as before. But he called a possible retirement that's really surprising. I hope he's just sending a message to Chinese national team to set him free. If not, that means he's frustrating about his left foot. Thats really bad.

How do you guys not remember? People were rude to him?

Pryuen would come into threads and call people names if they got any sort of detail wrong about Yao. He would use his annoying red font in a bigger size and throw a   any chance he got.

I agree that he was probably one of, if not the best, translator we had for China news. It seemed like he was always googling Yao's name and posting whatever popped up. But he really rubbed me the wrong way with his attitude -- he had the typical childish "only I KNOW the FACTS, you people are stupid should just wait for me to tell you" attitude.

He was the classic attention w****, and when people realized and called him on it he got mad and stayed on the YMM website. I don't really think we've missed anything important because he's gone -- maybe some pics of Yao's random China trips? Eh, I'm over it.

looks like you did have problem with him. you're still mad at him. luckily, i am not him. otherwise, i don't know where i can hide myself.

but seriously, he's long gone. these many years can't make you forgive a person you've never met and known him only on bb board, can you?

Not true. He wanted to remain on the board badly, but the mod wouldn't let him back in. He is not that thin-skinned.

I'm not still mad and I don't care about him, just amazed that people don't remember what he was really like.

Weren't you one of our translators as well? I may be confusing you with someone else.. we had quite a few back then!

Sucks to be him then. Frankly if one of the mods banned him then he must have deserved it. I trust their judgment. I remember him and do remember him being a bit "prickish". I only remember it because I didn't recall him always being that way. At any rate the mods on this board are pretty tolerant IMO and if you get banned its on you.

As far as Yao, I'm taking the wait and see stance. I do think that his statements were blown out of proportion, but we won't know how that foot is going to truly respond until he starts running and jumping for extended minutes in practice and during the season.
