I recently did some shaving and i now have several ingrown hairs. They are extremly itchy and kinda red.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do? How long they will be there? Will it get infected? ect.

Sorry if this is a weird/nasty thread.

Oh, and it goes without saying... don't think for a second that Nair is the answer.

If the hair is completely under the skin, get a small needle and slightly scrape at it until the hair is poking through then use tweezers to pull it out. If the tip has started growing into the skin then just skip the needle and go to the tweezers.

I get these things all the times and they are a pain.

If it is really an ingrown hair then no. The inflammation will only get worse and the affected area will more than likely start to pus up.

My gf plucks them out for me. Can't see the ones on my neck too well.

You know how if you want that REALLY close shave you shave against the grain? Well, don't do that in areas where you are prone to ingrown hairs. Just shave WITH the grain. This works better for me, though I'm still prone to ingrowns on my neck.

And there is no sure-fire, 100% solution to prevent ingrown hairs. Each individual's skin and hair has its own individual characteristics, so what works great for one person won't necessarily work for someone else.

can't you buy a product that lessen chances of ingrown hairs?

I use this Shave Secret Shaving Oil I buy at Wal*Mart, but who knows how much 'better' it actually is.

The only sure-fire way I know of is through waxing or by using one of those epilator things. Most of the girls I know say once they got used to these, they'd never go back to shaving.

Get a warm towel if infected, place it over the area. Get a small sterilzed needle and pop. Clean area and rub an over the counter triple antibiotic over it.

I get ingrown hairs on my jawline if I shave incorrectly.

-Make sure your face is ready. Treat it like you treat your special lady. Make sure it's hot, relaxed and moist before you start in.

    -Use a sharp razor.

    -Use shaving cream.
