I have seen it plastered on a number of national sports shows (e.g. espn) as well as national publications. It is also on the front page of mlb.com.

I don't have a television. So I don't know about the brodcasts. Believe it or not, I get a lot of news right here. Anyway, I just remember cal's streak, and this one just doesn't seem to that level of exposure. I could be wrong.

Wow, Oakland has won 19 games in a row!

Too bad the Yankees will go to the World Series again for the AL...

    Manny, don't jump the gun.

The yankees have to deal with Mulder, Hudson, and Zito, and Lidle/Lilly are no slouches.

I think this is the year for Oakland to break through.

Maybe, but after seeing how the Yankees came back last season against Oakland, I have my doubts that Oakland can beat them when it really matters, 19 and counting winning streak notwithstanding.

I heard about them winning #18 the other day on ESPN News. Sounded like a good game too. From what I remember, I think the other team went up one after the top of the ninth. I think they were down the whole game, also. But in the bottom of the ninth, Miguel Tejada hit a walkoff homerun. I don't remember how many were on base, though.

You know what is really scary?

The A's lost arguably their best player Jason Giambi to the Yankees in the offseason and they still have a 87-51 record. The Yankees are 85-52.

    Major League Team Payrolls
    NO. TEAM PAYROLL AVERAGE
    1. Yankees $125,928,583 $4,342,365

    28. Athletics $39,679,746 $1,469,620

    Go A's.

the mariners lost A-Rod, Randy and Griffey...and they proved to be a far better team...

is the same happening with Oakland...they lost Giambi and Damon in the offseason...they look pretty damn strong...

just goes to show the value of effective young, cheap pitching! :)

I have avidly been following this streak for the past few weeks now...

As a big baseball fan, the story of the A's has me totally pumped... My prediction? They'll fall short of the MLB record for consecutive wins and lose after 22 straight wins.

I have my doubts that Derek Jeter can make the same kind of superhuman play two years in a row to save the Yankees from being swept.

You know what's even more amazing drapg is that the 26 in a row had a 1-1 tie in the middle of the streak. They didn't count it, but it still is a smudge on the record. The longest streak, thus, without a smudge is 21! They could tie that next game. I mean in the game after next. Wow.

    QUOTE:

The A's must chase the Giants in the record books, but it's important to note that New York played a 1-1 tie midway through the streak in a game called due to weather. The tie didn't count in the standings but statistics from the game stood.

    "It's not a real 26," said Koch.

The only team with a longer streak and without ties was the 1935 Chicago Cubs, who won 21 in a row. The 1880 Cubs also won 21 straight, but that streak included a tie

Of course I have! Watched every game of the season, and now this has me pumped! I hope we destroy the Yanks and wipe the smirk off of pretty-boy "Jambi"'s face.

Pretty amazing! I hope they get to the Series. The Yankees have always been hated in my family. My Grandpa muttered "damned Yankees" on more than one occasion. That was about as bad as his language ever got. We saw them sometimes on his black & white TV. :p

good point kbm... i first heard about that on PTI today... never heard it mentioned before today and was pretty surprised... so the 26 games is actually a "26 consecutive non-loss streak" rather than a "26 game winning streak"... so the A's actually could set a new record!!!

    good stuff!

To even imply that the A's are better than the Yankees at this point is a joke. It's been 2 game 5s and 2 complete meltdowns by the A's.
