like that but what teams need a good PG and have a better then Ariza/Battier SF? What team went for Lowry? Pacers....right? Hmmm
Brooks is a vital cog in the working of the Rockets!! Give him a chance to prove that he can play with Yao Ming.
Brooks does not have value as an expiring contract. He has value as a player(with an inexpensive contract). T-Mac had great value as an expiring contract because his contract was worth 23million, compared to AB's contract worth 2mil.
yes but the only reason I put up the tmac story is to show the expirings as was tmac but as bima pointed out, tmac as an expiring wouldnt put us under the cap therefore resinging brooks at that point would even do worse damage to the salary cap, or would it not? this is where I was asking for a more knowlegeble help. quite frankly, I read bimas thread a few times and it sounds to familiar with this story money wise and dont understand why we wouldnt be under the cap with the expirings. idk, im getting more confused now.
I agree you are really confused about this. Why would we want to get rid of Brooks for salary cap room anyway? When we sign AB to a contract extension, guys like Battier, Jeffries, and even Yao will have already expired so that should give us some more flexibility anyway.
You know what's AMAZING? If Brooks was on any other team, ie... improved scoring average from 5pts to 11pts to 19.6 pts 5.3 asts 80%+ from the free throw line 39.8% from 3pt range Led the league in 3pt FG made. Most Improved Player Award at 25 years old People on this board would BEGGING Morey to acquire this guy. But now people actually are seeking trades before they even know what his ceiling is. the guy is still improving and could really be special if he improves as he has done in each of his first three years. AMAZING.
It's hard to overcome physical limitations and a lack of legit PG-caliber court vision. I like Brooks, obviously, but despite what he did on an individual level last season, I still see his ceiling as a nice scoring spark off the bench a la a Jason Terry or Nate Robinson. The only way that would change is if he could prove himself as a floor general and defender but those things are unlikely. He has a small frame and a player doesn't develop court vision at this stage of his career.
Honestly he's better than Nate Robinson by a mile and as good as Terry at his peak. The thing lacking is a shot blocking force at the rim. Look at how Gasol and Bynum makes up for Fisher's lack of speed at this stage of his career. Fix that and get back to me. When Brooks has it going he's very tough to defend. Your talking about a kid who in his 2nd season as a Full-Time starter averaged 20PPG.
I think you're either overrating Brooks or underrating Robinson and particularly, Terry. Either way, if Brooks plays out this season in Houston, it will answer a lot of questions once and for all about him. If he makes big steps in areas not related to scoring (which I think is unlikely), it may change a lot of opinions. If not, he likely becomes a backup for some other team. That's just the way I see it and that's once again, assuming he doesn't get traded before we can find out. I like rooting for Brooks but I also am not in denial of his obvious limitations.
Yeah Brooks can obviously take another step. Thats one aspect of it. I am just clamoring for an upgrade somewhere. I sure as hell dont want to see another banner in Lakers land and we are doing this same arguments over next offseason only to have some of you still not on board with bringing anyone here to upgrade us. I will give us to the middle of this season. From there? Its its not working out? I am not giving into that notion any longer no matter the couter argument.
If we resign Brooks, do we have any other money else where. I think thats what I really wanted to know with salry issues. 8-9mil is something he might have made THIS year. Next year who knows. But after pay raises, next year, with that pay increase, we will be the same team with 0 salary space room . I think?
Brooks put up Terry-type numbers last year bro (Look it up Terry's never averaged more than 19pts and averaged 7 ast just once in his 4th year on a BAD Atlanta team), and Robinson has never been a full time starter for anyone. Brooks meanwhile has quarterbacked a playoff series win. If you look at how LA just backed off Robinson (& especially Rondo) and yet Robinson could not CONSISTENTLY knock down a wide open shot. When he did Boston looked good, but Brooks would HAVE KILLED THEM. Hell LA still doesn't have a matchup for Brooks. How many "pure point guards" are there anymore anyway?
To the OP: What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this board is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Brooks might NEVER be a Steve Nash or CP3 in terms of a PG with court vision. I'll settle with him being the type of point guard like a Chancey Billups or a Tony Parker. And which ones have actually won championships?
