The direct TV rep told me yes you can. I just signed up 2 days ago. I've got to call back and try to get redzone channel as a standalone because I don't want to pay for sunday ticket.
I got the same response as well from directv. You are able to DVR between HD/SD receivers. I just bought a new tv, and I need another receiver. I signed up when they had the 1 free HD-DVR and 1 free HD receiver promo was going on about a month or so ago. I only had 1 tv at the time, so I only got the HD-DVR receiver to avoid paying the $5 lease fee on the other one. Since I have my second tv, i tried claiming the second one for free (haha). They told me the promo ended and that it would cost regular price plus installation now for the extra HD receiver. Does anyone know if this can be negotiated, or if there are specials that go on at all for a free HD receiver from them? Or even at least free installation
well i live in Austin, so once the Rockets come on, Fox Sports Houston gets blacked out. Fox Sports Southwest though shows all the spurs games, total bs.
That sucks. Their big promotion they had this past month just ended yesterday. It was a damn good deal. I just signed up like 4 days ago. As for my original post, the rep told me you have to have the WHOLE HOME DVR service to do what I wanted. So I signed up, it's only 3 bucks more a month, and you can connect up to 15 receivers to the 1 DVR box to watch / set to record shows.
It's like $24 a month every month for the first year, and $14 off a month for the 2nd. I'm fine with that. It's still cheaper than Dish which would have been regular price the 2nd year. And my Suddenlink Cable bill was $168 a month.....tired of paying that ****.
DirecTV will do deals with you all the time. I've gotten a couple of HDDVR's for free over the years by calling and asking, as well as several programming discounts. I'm sure it helps that I've been with them for 10 years, but they are known for hooking people up with good deals. Just call and ask, and if you don't get the answer you want, call again tomorrow.
LOL.....FYI, I have Uverse Internet...and Directv. Uverse TV. Swoly-D how many HDTV's do you have? Uverse can handle ONLY 2 HD Streams current. I currently have 6 HD streams (3 HDTV, each with a HD DVR with Dual Tuners). Directv has no limit on HD Streams. Also with Uverse, you can only record and watch the same show while recording because of the lack of dual tuners. Actually, you can do Multi-Room viewing 2 ways with Directv. #1...use your home computer network to share the DVRs....cost: $3.00 for the service a month. #2....there is a new hardware setup with your dish that requires a $99 dollar install for hardware, also $3.00 a month. Yes, you can share with SD TV if it one of the qualifying receivers.
I have DSL and U-verse in the same package. I only have one HDTV connected, but I have recorded 2 HD streams at once many times (World Cup games on Telefutura/Univision HD as an example). Is this with Direct TV? I know U-verse limits my HD streams to 2, but I didn't know D let you do as many HD as you wanted. I have no use for a 3rd HD feed... so I'm cool with 2. I don't understand this... sounds confusing to me, but I am able to record or watch the same show in up to two TVs. I have up to 4 SD feeds, 2 of which can be the same channel in HD or SD.
This is off the subject a little, but I don't want to create a new thread for a simple TV question. I'm in a market for a 40" HD TV. My question is, with everything else being the same, i.e. warranty, specs, etc. Would you buy a 500 dollar Viso or a 600 dollar Sony? I hear that Viso had quality problems but are much better now. TIA
Sony has had quality problems lately... Honestly, I'd go with the Vizio if the quality is up to par for your needs. I have a WestingHouse and I love it. Got my W from recommendations from DD. Checked them out at Bestbuy, then proceeded to purchase it and save ~$300 by buying it online at Newegg.com
I just had this all installed. You have to have at least one HD-DVR and the rest of the receivers have to be HD capable. It is definitely a cool setup. You don't have to have a network router unless you want access to video on demand and all the extras. In the case, you would have to order what is called a "DECA" module to convert the cat5 cable to a coax that will plug into the SWIM module that DirectTV will supply you with.
