I know CHA doesn't want to move CP3. But if they decide they have to, I would have a hard time seeing anyone beat that package, and it is one I would pull the trigger on from our side too.
Do you think Paul is a serious target for Morey? Serious as in he's really jonesin' for the guy and will deal if opportunity presents itself, not serious as in some "insider" from another board gives us entertainment during the off-season?
i think too much is read into comments by morey....he's always mentioning how they're set up for something...its because that's the flexibility he's set up . Technically we've been set up for it for a while now. We've accumulated more picks and young guys, but i dont think that necessarily means we're trying to make something happen now, this season, etc. He's always making calls and getting informed. It's no different than the Bosh situation. You wait for an opening, make a pitch, and hope for the best.
True. That said, the Rockets will probably never have a better window to improve themselves via trade for the next few years or so than they have RIGHT NOW. By "right now", I mean between now and the February trade deadline. Remember, once the trade deadline passes, the expiring contracts of Battier, Jeffries, Hayes and (while not likely to be traded) Yao are no longer tradable commodities. While those picks and young players are the real assets, the Rockets will lose a great deal of flexibility to match salaries for trade purposes. Next summer (or into the 2011-12 season) the Rockets could always use Scola's sizable contract, or the quasi-expiring contract of Brad Miller, but the level of flexibility will not be there. Yes, Morey's always looking to improve the team. But the best chance to make a major move is between now and February. If not, it could be quite some time (several seasons) before the Rockets find themselves in such an enviable position.
And again, as with Bosh, CP3 would have to WANT to come to Houston.... Because the Rox would not trade unless someone is willing to sign with them again, or there are enough remaining years. DD
Yup. I do think AI would eventually become an option, but I don't see Morey making a deal now - between the assets it would take to get him as well as his contract, Iggy is your "superstar" trade if you make it. If the likes of Paul, Granger and Anthony don't become available by February, I do think Morey could turn back to Philly then and make the best of the situation. But not now.
Cool! Then I hope he becomes available. As Bima points out above, this is our best time to make a deal, up until the deadline. Paul would be terrific here, assuming he wants to play in Houston.
Aint nobody wanna play in Houston except Brad Miller and Luis Scola and Trevor Ariza and Bonzi Wells and others who want to play in Houston.
My thoughts exactly. I keep hearing people throw out these marquee free agent names, but the question is would they want to resign with the rockets. Otherwise its just a waste. Carlos Beltran anyone? *I know baseball reference, couldn't think of a rocket one year superstar that left the following year. And Scottie Pippen I don't consider a superstar
yeah but if yao ming would sign a lesser contract and you let those 3 guys go off the books how far would the rockets be under the cap to be able to sign a player? i guess you would also have to take in account if you wanted to keep aaron brooks, if so you have to give him some of that also. at that point you would have 3-4 rookie contracts, yao ming at less money, scola, lowry, ariza, and miller and also brooks ...thats it. in my head thats a pretty low amount, maybe around 47 million or so...????
Excellent post, timing is everything. If this is the window of opportunity, I hope the Rockets find a trading pardner for the player that is just the right fit. Frankly, I am not sure who that is, but we could do much worse than Chris Paul.
The drive to succeed is the most important. That is what differs good from great and great from alltime great. A great pool of talent is somewhat useless if you don't know how to tap into it.
i agree...i just dont think he's trying any harder now because i think he's always trying. Since he'd rather make no move than a bad one, I dont like the idea of implying "he's trying now" because it sounds like he's trying to force something to happen now. It also implies he wasnt trying before and then fans will ask why that was, and assume something within the team/lineup/rotation triggered it.
