Well, that Sixers insider was confident that a deal between us could happen next week.

I actually love this move. While Miller saw a decrease in production last year, it was partly due to him playing odd minutes, sometimes playing 30 minutes a game to sometimes not playing at all.

I have confidence that Adelman will get the most out of Miller just like he did with Martin and all of his past players.

Mutombo played less minutes in Houston than he did the previous 2 years. But he played more games with Houston and was more efficient within those limited minutes. His rebound and block% got BETTER with Houston in his limited role.

The commonality is Mutombo was considered injury riddled ready for the scrap heap and DONE when the Rockets signed him. Though Mutombo is the fitter of the 2 probably even still, Mutombo was equally slow and 4 years OLDER than Miller.

    What do I want?

Hopefully for Miller to have consistent play over a full season thats better than his worst season. Mutombo "turned back the clock" to when he was 35. Hopefully Miller can turn back the clock to when he was 31. Different body types but it seems fairer to expect that then the Brent Barry signing.

I'm good with the signing of Miller. He can be and has been a starter. He's played under Adelman's system, so not much for him to learn. And he has playoff experience. For backing up Yao, he'll get alot of minutes. No disappointment here, except there are too many thread about this subject!

as a backup C, miller is good enough. I think it is a successful sign.

I think that the whole dissapointment lies where the hype of trying to add Chris Bosh to the Rockets brought to us. We were all putting time and effort each day to find out if Chris was going to become a Rocket. Saddly, he went to the Heat and we were all left in dissapointed. Now the only bright spot to the Rockets offseason has been re-signing their own free agents (Scola and Lowry). Which brings us back to Brad Miller. Yes, he not a spring chicken anymore but, what he does bring is a legitimate backup to Yao. He is a great passer and is a decent scorer. But, above all else, he brings experience. That's what we need from the standpoint of not having to break up the team and trading away all these pieces and possibly settle/overpay and mess up team chemistry and so on and so on. I know it's not a big splash, but it could be the insurance that the Rockets need in order to survive another worst case scenario (aka another Yao injury).

The thing with that is the limited role puts him against lesser players, which is what Miller will get, this is doubled up by the fact you're replacing a high efficiency/foul drawer, so your opponents are also going to be more tired and less willing to be as physical.

This team has hardly even played together yet, I'm not sure what else some of you guys want

    Remember:
-Brooks has still not played a full season as the starting PG alongside Yao
-Brooks and Martin only played about 20 games together last season

This team has not been together long enough to say it is not ready to compete. They could very well be ready as they are.

I dont really have a problem with miller per se. Personally, i would liked to have seen mbenga for his toughnes, shot blocking, rebiunding and age and trade for hollins whom they couldve had at the same price as andersen. I think the rockets have too many offensive minded players in the 1st and 2nd untis. Adding miller wont stop the layup line when yao goes out. Dding miller will still make the rockets terrible is space with the pick and roll. I guess we will see, but i've seen this movie before with the older player who knows the system.

If we can trade DA for something, I am pleased with the Miller signing.

Everyone's shot gets blocked in the NBA. Im sure there is a gif of Yao being blocked by nate robinson being floated around somewhere.

I love how nobody has specifically stated a FA alternative.....

Brad Miller was the best possible FA acquisition... You can whine about the $'s all you want but we couldn't have signed anyone better.

He's been blocked by a prime (timberwolve) KG as well, at the time the elite big man defender in the NBA
