well, if the rockets are interested in him, they are interested in him at that price right? if you go shopping for a porsche, you can't be shocked when it's expensive. you know that going in. the rockets want star players, which no team wants to give up. the only reasons teams willingly give up star players are if 1) they are going absolutely nowhere and want to tear the team down and rebuild (like when minny traded KG), or if they are just tired of paying someone big dollars when the team isn't winning and they have someone else who can do a passable job for a lot less (which is more the case here). putting it simply - if iggy didnt have that contract, the sixers would have no reason to make him available.
I'm not shocked at the Porsche sticker price, just leary of having to own it for 4 years and hindering me in accumulating some more quality cars.
I think this is a win-win situation. If we get Andre, it is a clear upgrade in the SF position, but Ariza will still flourish playing with Yao. We are in a great win-win situation..
yup. you gotta be sure he's the guy you really want before you take the leap. not just that, but you gotta be sure that none of the players you'd rather have will be available (like Paul, Granger, or others) before you use your assets in an AI2 deal.
I like Iggy alot and I see him as potential triple double type guy who'm the rockets don't currently have, but used to have in T-Mac. I also think Jordan Hill has tons of potential and Ariza is young and a solid natural small forward who is more suited for an inside out (Yao) type of game. If Houston does this trade they would be giving up alot and getting back alot as well, but if I'm Morey I would demand Mareese Speights from the Sixers instead of Smith.
I feel like Iggy is one of those hard nosed lunch pail guys who always goes full speed, like Scola/Lowry/Hayes/Battier. He would give us toughness we need to get our defense back to the way it was.
Williams, Holiday Turner, Green Meeks Iggy, Young, Nocioni, Kapono Brand, Speights Hawes, Smith Iggy ($12.4M) for Hill ($2.7M) + Hayes ($2M/max incent $2.3M)+ Jeffries ($6.9M)+ 2012 NY pick 2010-11 Williams, Holiday Turner, Green (exp), Meeks Young, Nocioni, Kapono (exp) Brand, Speights, Jeffries (exp) Hawes, Hill, Hayes (exp), Smith (exp) 2011-12 Williams, Holiday Turner, Meeks Young, Nocioni Brand, Speights Hawes, Hill Brooks, Lowry Martin, Budinger, Taylor Iggy, Ariza, Battier Scola, Patterson, Andersen Miller, Yao
I know this is conventional wisdom around here, but based on what exactly? His contract may not be so pretty for your typical "19 5 5" guy, but going beyond standard boxscores, adding his defensive rating and impact on winning to his other contributions justifies the salary. It may not be a "steal", but much better than how it's perceived here. As for Jordan Hill, he seems to be the antithesis of the "Morey" player. All the physical tools in the world, and complete blank space up top. Meanwhile Morey's MO has been overlooking physical/athletic shortcomings, as long as the player produces on the court. So why trade for him in the first place? Simply because he was the highest(perceived) valued asset we could have gotten in the rape/pillaging of the Knicks, besides their untouchable- Gallinari. If this is the case, and that he was only acquired for his perceived value around the league, not because he was a targeted player, then he should be included in any and all trade negotiations from here on out. Since he will only have diminishing value the longer we wait(wasn't wanted as a player in the first place, decline in playing time after Miller and Patterson signing).
How bout Battier and Hayes instead of Ariza, huh? How bout it? AB/Lowry Martin/Taylor Ariza/Cbud Scola/Anderson Yao/Miller Patterson, who ever else I for some reason think I'm forgetting
I don't see why the 76ers even bother with the deal unless they are looking for cap relief and young guys in a rebuilding process. Salary wise (assuming we resign Brooks and Yao), his contract would give us like 6 core players under contract for the next 3-4 years. So the fact that Iggy is underpaid is a non-factor because we'll be in the same boat for 3-4 years either way. This deal screams trade deadline though. The 76ers are going to suck either way this year unless Brand pulls his head out of his ass and has one good year. Even then they would be a 6th seed tops. But this is the type of deal I expect the Rockets to try and make at the trade deadline. Expiring contracts, picks, prospects for some borderline All-star type player. Other than a team like OKC that I believe is still under the cap, you have to like our odds at being the first to grab a type of player like this.
While any trade is generally going to be a longshot at least we are talking to other teams. As it is we seemed to have talked quite a bit with them as per sixerfan1976's last post in that thread: Where I found the post on this thread http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=5454869&postcount=271
I am comfortable with this team we have now. I feel that this team could be in serious contention as is.
LOL! They want to get blown away in a deal for Igyy? Really? Ariza is borderline straight up value for value for Iggy in the first place. Not gonna get what these guys have unrealistic expectations for. They might get these decent offers that have beenfloated about but thats about as good as they could expect for a huge contract like Igoudalas for marginally better offensive player and efensive player than Ariza already is. Might want to look elsewhere. I think the team is unrealistic in their Iggy value like Rockets fans are sometimes with our players. I would rate no less than three Rockets on this team already better than Igoudala probably. Brooks, Yao and possibly Martin. Ariza was averaging something around 17 points like Andre wasnt he around the begining of the season before Martin got here? Kind of similar to me and huge upgrade in contract money. So maybe we should keep Ariza? He is a better value than Andre and not quit enough to put us over the hump perhaps? Good player but probably not much of an upgrade.
Ed Stefanski is a moron, he shoulda done the T-Mac/Budinger for AI/Dalembert trade at the deadline when he had the chance. His stupid ass thinks he is actually gonna get an all-star in return for AI. He's the one that gave out that ridiculous contract to him. He made his bed and now he has to sleep in it. You aren't gonna get a better offer than Ariza/Jeffries/Hill. We are doing him a favor. With our without Iggy, they aren't gonna make the playoffs anyways. Might as well start rebuilding. Make this deal now Ed or your gonna regret it later. No amount of Doug Collins is gonna save your franchise from mediocrity. Deal us Iggy and will give you cap relief and maybe, just maybe some of our draft picks.
Is this even a legit rumor? I have searched all over the internet, done a google search and cannot find any recent Iguodola to Houston rumors. The most recent one I saw was from February 4th. Is this just someone cooking up this rumor or is it legit?
