What defenders are available? Why tried to get Tyson Chandler but couldn't. The Rockets improved today. Be happy. And its not you money to say that he is overpaid.

And he brings toughness at the C position. Something David Andersen doesnt have. He will make this team better.

    Its a good signing.

Creating a future trade asset and filling a need is a good thing.

Miller ahead of Hill in the rotation. At least to start the season. And Andersen might be ahead of Patterson/Hill at PF too.

    1) I think it's a bit much, but once we already were in luxury tax hell, what difference does it make to any of us whether Les pays 8 or 10 or whatever million in luxury tax.

    2) Nobody can blame Les for being cheap this year.

    3) Can't believe nobody in this thread has emphasized this yet, but this move really tells you what our GM and coach think about Andersen and especially about Hill. I don't think they see a whole lot of potential in Hill, other than as a trade chip.

At first I thought he was over paid. However, he is going to be playing a ton of minutes because the rockets don't know how Yao will come back. God forbid if anything happens to Yao, the rockets have a back up center who is capable of being a starter in the league. So he is getting paid as a starter.

I like the pick up of Brad Miller but overpaid to get paid.

Somebody make a poll of this decision of Brad Miller.

Deke left after the 2008-2009 season. He was suppose to be the backup C for Yao. He ended up playing 9 games that season so all the burden at center was on Yao. We thought Dorsey was going to be the replacement and he ended up a bust.

Last season, Morey got Andersen after Yao was gone. We thought he would at least be a backup C and he ends up being a bust. Poor Chuck Hayes had to take over the role until Jordan came on. But I give Jordan a pass since he was a rook and he didn't any playing time under Dictator Antoni. He could end up being the backup center.....just has to be groomed and put some damn weight!

So since Deke left, we haven't been waiting that long for a backup.

Now that we have a legitimate center who has played in Adelman's offense, I have a good feeling about this.

    3rd time's a charm.

With Miller, we are adding a very good free throw shooter (career 80%) and a guy that can draw his share of fouls. Add that to a team that already has two of the best players at drawing fouls, look for the Rockets to make a living at the line. If we could pull off the Iggy for Ariza trade, we would be getting another player very good at drawing fouls and our worst FT% for a starter would be around 75%.

Well. 5 million for two years kind of hampers our ability next year with Yao and Brooks potentially signing. I hope they have a contingency plan or trade in place in mind toget rid of some salary. They particularly need to get rid of glut contracts like Battier, Jeffries, Derek Andersen now, Yao maybe if he isnt intending on resigning or Brooks if we cant resign him. All expiring we need to potentially trade to get some value back for if we arent keeping certain ones. So that list is the list of tradeable assets we need to address or potentially lose for nothing. Anderson because he is dead money now and useless as backup with Brad Miller here. Jeffries because we wont resign him and Battier too because I dont think we resign him either as definates in trades. Whatever Morey can get for them as positives and include some other good player or picks to consolidate those players into something positive for us in the coming years in their absence next year.

Thats a good deal though because this is a part time center we are looking at when Yao has significantly less minutes this year.

How? You have Hill and Hayes listed twice. I listed them in their primary position even though most of the players can play multiple spots. I honestly think Hill will play more than Miller at the 5 next season, at least by season's end. Patterson will work his way into the rotation as well.

"And I finally get to play with Yao (Ming) instead of guarding his big butt."

This dude is a little bit dirty, a little bit saucey, and a highly intelligent baller with a huge set of you know whats and the ability to hit a 3 and bang the paint.

Not only that, but this contract is going to last a year and a half tops. The players are getting locked out next year. They know it. They're getting all they can this year. It's a foregone conclusion. 2012 will be 50 games or less. And then Miller is essentially a $5 million contract with a $1 million buyout. This was a good signing.

I am now convinced we are modeling Hill for Philly.

No complain. Brad Miller should be a decent backup just like what Deke did. Deke was for JVG and Brad is for Adelman. Happy to see the roster has been completed. I can see Morey is building a contender. We have filled all holes in every position. This Rocket team is probably the strongest on paper in the last decade.

One stupid question. Are we going to be the most luxury team in the league? I can't imagine Les will do it also I don't know why he will do it. Waiting for some quality posters to explain the salary thing.

I can't believe some of you are complaining about this. We have no idea if Yao can stay healthy. Miller is a legit C we desperately needed to round out this squad. Miller is someone that will kill in the high post, he's a plus passer that will find our cutters. Not the best defender but he will mix it up down low. So he's a little older, so what. A little overpaid, maybe but maybe not by today's standards.

I see names like Whiteside and Mbenga, are you kidding me? You want a rookie that probably won't sniff the floor much on a bad team, Mbenga who rarely made it off of the bench for the lakers. Ridiculous.

Miller will be more than solid. Very good signing IMO.

Its a projected depth chart. He can be listed in 5 positions if possible.

And go watch Brad Miller play, look at some stats, then come back here.

This is a good point, Miller should not be seen as a backup but rather splitting time with Yao. Yao will only play 20-25 minutes to begin and Miller will get the other 20-25. Miller will have a significant role on this team this season.
