Since I don't have a USB port on my laptop, is it possible to aquire a broadband PC card? I know there a lot of hardware guru's on the bbs so I think someone should be able to help me.
I did some searching, but I don't know what it is I am looking for.

are you going to be using this at home in conjunction with your current broadband connection? if so, all you should really need is an ethernet card 10/100 and a router (so you can share your connection with your home pc and your laptop)

I have a linksys router and a wireless pc card I use within the confines of my home.

let us know if this is the info you are looking for...

for broadband stuff... go here http://www.dslreports.com they have excellent message boards with tons of forums.

rH, would a Xircom® CardBus Ethernet 10/100+ Modem 56 Adapters allow me to get DSL through my PC Card slot?

I don't see why not... it's an ethernet card, I used to use one of those.

it's not a question of whether or not "they are dsl".... they will work with any kind of network connection. dsl/cable, etc is a service, it's the network adapter that you will need in order to connect.

as long as they are "ethernet cards" 10/100 they should work fine.

they will have to connect to your broadband modem. which will have a ethernet connection coming from it.

Your provider should lease you the modem for the broadband service. As long as you have a compatible network card (which, these days, is pretty much any 10/100 Ethernet card), your provider should provide you with the rest.

just a tip, I just bought me a 3Com PCMCIA card with a 10base Network Adapter for $5 at Fry's. The only setback is that it was refurbised, but installed with ease and no drivers to install. I use it on my Uncle's laptop with my cable connection I got hooked up to a D-Link router to share connections with the current computer I am on, the laptop, and my XBox as soon as XBox Live starts.

    c'mon.. .it's not hard.

I've got broadband on 3 PC's in my house. With a router, it's easy.. with a wireless router... shoot, it's easier (no cables)!! :D

I have 4, about to be 5. One thing I have noticed...if three or more people are online, and the TV in the living room (digital cable) is on, the TV in the bedroom (also digital cable) will mess up from time to time. When I first had it all hooked up, it was worse. I had to call Time Warner and have them boost the signal a bit.

Just to add some testimonial here....I went with SBC for DSL. I have a laptop, and they provided a modem & network card free of charge (provided I stay with them for 12 months). Setup was a piece of cake, and no service problems whatsoever.

Somewhere along the line, I switched laptops. The one I use now has a ethernet port built-in, so my complimentary network card is just sitting around collecting dust.

(not affiliated with SBC in any way :) )

I don't see why you don't just buy a PCMCIA USB card and connect that to the broadband modem. BestBuy.com sells one (USB) for $59.99. It's a four port USB II (compatible with USB 1.1) PCMCIA card.
