Man, I'm definitely thinking about it. I have a good-sized bald spot in the back and thinning up front.

About 4 years ago, I got a buzz cut with my son. I loved having so little maintenance. Actually I have virtually none now but am anticipating the day of even less.

I don't know if I'd shave, but I could see having a severe close cropping with an electric trimmer.

For me, the close cropping was the only way to go. I have mine cut with a #2 head on the trimmer, and it looks great. I get more complements now than ever.

    BUT...

I still have a mental problem with the fact I am going bald. Must be a male machoism thing.

Manny, what's your email address? I'll show you, but I would rather not show the whole BBS.

    I would do it, definitely.

Unless I had a pug type head like Battier that is.

I haven't gotten rid of it all, but I get damn close to it everytime my wife gets a hold of the clippers. She likes the hair short. :)

Im 22 and because of my mother side of the family expect to start losing my hair at any minute.

I already shave my head to a certain degree (Buzz cut I think you call it) so it wont be to different for me anyway.

I dont think a clean shaven look will be too good for me. I'd get comments like "I didnt know you have cancer" so lets hope the bald gene skips a generation. :D

I started balding when I was about 23 and went through a period of time where I wasn't comfortable with it.......until...

    I shaved it all off.

I now use a 1 gaurd about every other week or so. No maintenance...and VOR is right: Girls like it.

The best thing you can do, however, is just be comfortable with who you are(not saying that you are not). Confidence is the best medicine available on the market.

One piece of advice: Don't forget the sunscreen.

Well, this isn't exactly the same cause I wasn't going bald, but...

Over the summer I shaved my head completely bald down to the skin. And I'm only 18, not going bald at all...although my mother's father was so I think it's inevitable. And oh boy, did it look weird. I mean, the shape of my head was fine, but you've got to figure in that your head hasn't gotten any sunlight since you were a baby. And since it was in the summer, the rest of my face was tan, and my head was pasty white.

It was sunburned on the very first day.

And most people thought it was weird looking, one, because it was pale and I looked like a cancer patient, and two, I didn't tell anyone I was going to do it, nor did I have a good reason.

And this probably isn't useful at all, but it's just my story!

    good god you are right,

I had never had a sunburn in my life untill I shaved my head. I was a lifeguard for 10 years, never used sunblock, was black as night, but the last 2 years I was bald, and wore lots of hats and for the first time ever had to wear sunblock.

be carefull, because it is really uncomfortable to take a hot shower on a burnt head.

    PEACE

    Manny,

How short is your hair now? If you're not sure about shaving your head, maybe you should buzz it and get an idea. Another thing to note: if you have a lumpy head, you're probably better off keeping a little hair up there to smooth it out :D

    shave your head...
sit in the back of a car, while your friends cruise around and start singing... "shake down, 1979, cool kids....never...had the time..."

I use a cordless trimmer without the guard on it once a week. It gives me a really short cut but not quite slick. I tried shaving with a razor a time or two and really didn't like it.

    Don't fight mother nature.

I thought about shaving my head after I started losing a lot... but after having it cut with a #1 shaver, decided that it was a bad idea. Since I'm skinny, people thought I looked like I just came out of a concentration camp. I went the opposite route, and started taking Propecia, which grew back enough hair that people hardly notice I'm losing it any more (I do have to cut it on the short side still).

I just recieved my new driver's license in the mail and I look younger now at 30 than I did at 24.

If you still have peach fuzz on top, then it could still grow back.

Don't shave your head. A much better idea would be to keep it like an inch long on top, a #2 on the sides, and short at the front. A caesar cut would look pretty good. Keep some facial hair like sideburns or a goatee to compliment it. It will look tight.

    I like that style, Behad.

I think I'll try to get it cut like that. Now, the only question is how long do you go before getting it cut again or do you maintain it yourself by trimming it every week or longer?

Whatever you do, just keep it short. Personally I don't like the shaved bald look, but it beats a "comb over" or the "bald on top, long at back".
