I would rather sign mbenga to a 5yr 10m deal and solidify the backup center position. Also, mbenga is a really good defender who can anchor the defense even when yao is out and with the uptempo 2nd unit.
I think Mbenga would be just fine. I think Morey's pretty fond of him too. He was mentioned in this thread... http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=177783
Are we that desperate? We go grab another player who addresses none of our weaknesses and whose strengths are redundant to what we already have. Who cares if he "knows the system" or can hit the jumper or make a pass when those are not things we are in desperate need of. For the record, his jumper isn't what it used to be. This team ALREADY runs the system and scores at will. It doesn't need another finesse big man to make the offense run smoother. It needs a banger/shot blocker/defender. It needs a new Mutombo. This would be like the Celtics grabbing a washed up wing player and bragging about his experience or the Lakers grabbing a has-been PG and talking up his decision making. It's not much better than a lateral move.
Fine with me at least we will finally have a legit center back up. Plus he's from the Congo just like Mutumbo. I just want our damn roster finalized.
he's gonna announce his decision on ESPN2 at 9 pm. centeral time. the proceeds are gonna go to the Boys and Girls club of Houston.
He would probably go back to la for vets min, but for the lle, he would probably come here. 2m per for yao's backup is worth it plus he brings the physicality that miller doesnt. If yao misses games, i feel good about him starting and really anchoring the defense. Miller isnt contesting shots at the rim.
Adding Miller really helps this team in my opinion. I think the addiditon of Miller will ultimately spell the end for David Andersen. Brooks/Lowry Martin/Budinger/Taylor Ariza/Battier/Jeffries Scola/Hill/Patterson Yao/Miller/Hayes That is a very dangerous team if healthy. Our depth is by far our biggest attribute.
