You're holding it wrong. The Droid X and iPhone 4 (defect and all... lol) are still at the top of my list. Actually I really want to wait for the first batch of Win 7 phones, but I'm not sure I can. I'll wait until the early results are in on the Droid X for sure before making a decision.
The last I heard was around October to December. The only thing I don't like is that it will be somewhat bastardized on release I think, with features being added as they send out updates. This is pretty much what Apple does. For example, I don't think the phone will initially support tethering (ever?) or things like VoIP (ever?).
This has probably been posted somewhere, but its pretty funny. So are you gonna wait or just bite the bullet? The Samsung Galaxy phones seem to be flying under the radar. They come out this week too.
a quality win7 phone won't be out of a while but i am sure feature-crazy-quality-lackiing-HTC will have one out asap.
ordering mine right now at the site btw, if anybody is thinking about it getting it in store, do yourself a favor and just get it online, you get the rebate INSTANTLY and dont have to worry about sending any rebate it, its free overnight shipping, and the stores will probably 35-50, but some will have in the 100s for those interested in a Motorola Droid, it will appearing in the Classifieds soon EDIT: well SOB, I can't upgrade till September, apparently even though my contract ends in Nov. the "early upgrade to a Smartphone if your contract ends before the end of the year" doesn't apply to employees, oh well.....
I'm definitely going to wait for reviews in the Droid X from users and to try one out in person. I'm also going to wait and see what Apple is going to say at their press conference tomorrow about the iPhone 4's antenna issue. I honestly don't know if I'll wait for Windows Phone 7, though - my iPhone 3G is driving me crazy.
I have the crappy G1 on Tmobile. It's had a broken screen, drops calls and turns off by itself like nobodys business. I've been putting up with it for about 3-4 months now. Waiting for a phone. Wanted to wait for Win 7 phones to come out, but its still a long ways away. I am 30 seconds away from a Tmobile store and trying to restrain myself from just walking over there to pick up the Samsung Vibrant that is due out today.
Went by a Verizon Wireless store and a Best Buy and both only have it available to pre-orderers. Casually asked the Best Buy dude if they had iPhone 4's and they finally DID, of course... but I took a deep breath said "eeeeh no thanks" and walked out. Too hyped up to try out Android after the last couple of days!!! And Verizon is starting to sound really appealing... Guess I'll just order online!
Why are you so against the Vibrant? Go pick it up and let me know how you feel about it. I might go get its neutered ATT cousin.
i got it about an hour ago. i HAAAAAAAAATE my house. same coverage or worse than ATT (have a 3gs)/Sprint (sister has a centro) at this location. i was really hoping verizon would get better coverage here. as far as the phone...it's impressive. beautiful screen..though it's a fingerprint magnet. i am sure a screen protector will help. it does run a little bit warm. i read that in one of the earlier reviews and it's true for mine. call quality: i am not that impressed. callers on the other end said that the noice cancellation is doing its job but theres still a lil bit of muffling to my voice. i also noticed some distortion/squeaking on the earpiece. and boy verizon is not cheap. no 7pm mins! so i would have to bump to a 900 min plan vs. the 450+7pm i had on the iphone. but then again i am not sure if i am keeping it. we shall see..
Can any Android experts comment on the consequences of the Droid X bootloader being as locked down as I'm hearing? What would I be missing out on exactly from my "Android experience" ?
I'm not an expert. but it seems fairly par for the Motorola course. They are pretty much whiny dickholes who want people to rely solely on them for official software and updates and be forced to buy a new phone once they stop updating yours. It would be like if a car manufacture made your engine die if you added aftermarket equipment to the car. It is one thing to not support a phone OS with a software mod, it is a completely new high for assholishness to break the phone of you mod it. If you intend to keep your phone for a couple of years only and only update the phone when it tells you to, no biggie. If you always want the latest Android system and want to push the phone more than the average 16 year old girl, it may make a difference later.
Is it locked? I thought they put a chip in there that doesn't actually do anything. Its never stopped anyone before.
Rumor is all the moto smartphones have it. Only one is using it though.... Well, until now apparently.
Yeah, the "eFuse" thing is being blown out of proportion it sounds like - no real risk of bricking the phone actually present, but I am still hearing the boot rom is 1024-bit encrypted AKA won't be cracked in our lifetime with current computation abilities. Actually starting to look at the EVO 4G now... I'm all over the place today... Are these available in stores readily or do they have supply issues still?
It's pretty dumb of Moto IMO. They should understand that the main reason people are drawn to their new phones is because of Android. Trying to lock Android down makes no sense.
Still in short supply but the bevy of new phones coming in the next 5 days should help. I think they have a white EVO now too.
