I know he's panned as being on a rocket-red leash, but I think Feigan's blogs are generally spot on, and this one is no different. We are 'picky' in that we won't overpay for someone who's not going to make us a probable contender and will hurt our flexibility in the long run. And I do think Brad Miller would fit a need for us in games and in practice against Yao.

As much as I disagreed with your pleas last year to get a 7' slug last year  , I'm completely uncomfortabe with going into the season with Hill as Yao's backup.

Hill might develop as the season progresses and surprise us, but I'm having nightmarish thoughts of 2 seasons ago before we coaxed Deke back and I cringed everytime Yao left the court.

It's really sounding like Morey is willing to risk not signing a center - if Miller wants too much.

If our D.Morey fails to get us a decent back up Center ( No to Dampier) he will be making a terrible mistake in not protecting Yao Ming.
If he thinks Hayes & Hill can do the job then he is out of his mind. This will be the major weakness of our team.
Les tell him we must have a back up Center for this upcoming season! :p

PS Hill looks week almost like a small Forward playing out of position!! :p

I am content with what we have. Not going after Mike James makes me very happy.

we made our free agency move with T-mac and KM. Way ahead of the actual time when things went down, Morey took advantage of the Knicks and Kings.

    That's a fair point.

Though it is irritating that Morey smartly pinpointed a golden opportunity to get a C in a good value situation with Tyson Chandler, only to have the original 4 team trade fail, it got leaked and then the Rockets weren't able to get a follow up trade before the MAVS (as usual following Morey's lead) make the move to get Chandler for the same pennies on the dollar the Rockets were offering. Re-read Hollinger's article I posted in this thread to see how the Bobcats didn't save jack squat with Dampier (versus what the Rockets were offering).

free agents are concerned about yao thats the big question mark for this team, i think that if morey can get a star by the 2011 nba trade deadline and pair him with yao, free agents are gona be lining up at our door steps come next years off season, maybe even carmelo anthony. the key is a healthy yao, thats why its important to sign a decent back up big even if he is a little over prized because our main goal is to protect our bigger investment/asset (yao).

I was only really interested in a couple of players. We still have a strong team, and great assets. I'd take our current team over most of the teams in the NBA. I'm hoping that we add a serviceable big (a true 7-footer....Hill is not a center), and that our patience pays off within the next year...getting us a Melo or CP3.

Either way, I'm going to remain a loyal fan and not give up on the season before it starts.

and hes done a fantastic job but if you recall our lack of size was one of the main reasons we struguled against the lakers in the playoffs. i say lets at least go for brad miller, if he signs with us lets split the minutes between yao, chuck an miller at the center until yao is able to take us on his shoulders.

We're not going to trade for a center that has multi-years left on his contract. That eliminates Gortat, etc., unless we somehow can take out Ariza and get back a higher value of expiring contracts.

We are saving our cap space for Paul/Okafor.

Biedrins in owed $9M per for the next SEVERAL years.

The "problem" for the Rockets is that they have NO BAD CONTRACTS to trade in exchange for Biedrins. Morey has done such a good job of ridding the roster of terrible contracts (Jared Jeffries's expiring deal is the worst on the roster!) that there is no deal for Andris that makes financial sense.

Sure, if Jeffries had two more years on his deal at $6.8M per, I would be all for trading Jeffries and an expiring contract for Biedrins, with Golden State saving some (but not a ton) of money in future years.

But, alas, the Rockets' roster is devoid of trash contracts to trade for Biedrins's trash contract. Decent player, though.

One thing that Hollinger failed to mention was that by getting Dampier and getting cap space right now is that it gives the bobcasts the ability to to take on Salary right now with out having to send back players to make the numbers work.
Dampier's contract is the next best thing to having a TPE, and just incase you have not noticed TPE's are the thing to have right now.

Also the Bobcasts have more positions of need then Dallas did. So players that Dallas could have got with Damps contract they may not have had need for (example Jefferson).
