You know what I mean!! Damp got easy layups and dunks from Kidd the last two years. He has ZERO offesive capability. NONE. He's slow. He doesn't command a double team and he's horrible from the line.

He's basically a broke down Shaq. DO NOT WANT!!

Damp's FG% the last 4 seasons: 64%, 65%, 66%, 64%. I'm not concerned with his ability to finish around the basket. Defensively, he's a presence around the rim, a solid post defender, and a good rebounder. He's not Chuck Hayes in terms of mobility, but I think basket protection is the higher priority.

Wouldn't surprise me if he went back to Dallas or Miami if waived

lol sorry, pet peeve now. I know you know his name and respect your opinion on the subject. I do agree with you on offense, but I think he'd be a vital upgrade compared to our boy Andy. He's just too soft for a five.

Damp is all about the money so I doubt he goes to Miami. And what he's going back to Dallas to sit behind Chandler and Haywood?

Good point on the latter but he's still getting his money. Why not Miami if he wants and thinks he can win?

I'd rather bring back Kelvin Cato.

No one can really argue that he's not an average/above average post defender, which would precisely be the reason we would try to acquire him. He averaged 1.4 BPG last year and his BPG per 36 min are 2.2 (not that he would ever play that long, but still noteworthy for scale).

    HOWEVER,

IMO, there are just certain players you don't sign or trade for because of the fan consensus. It may sound stupid or juvenile to some, but the overall league opinion of Erick Dampier is not a positive one, and the collective sentiments of Rocket's fans for him are even worse. You don't bring a player the fans HATE onto a team. That'd be like picking up Greg Ostertag from the Jazz in the 90's. While we're at it, let's see if the Mavs will a deal with us for Jason Terry. Or better yet, let's see if the Jazz will give us Andre Kirelenko. Wouldn't you just LOVE that?

    Pro scout opinion:

Dampier has been instrumental in the Mavericks success at the last six seasons. Once again, the fact that he's overpaid does not mean he's useless, he has been overall one of the better defensive centers in the game. Elite rebounder, decisive presence in the lane, blocking some shots and changing some another, a tough player in the post, and a very efficient offensive player (look FG%). And some of you say Hayes is a better CENTER... Yeah, a nice 6-6 center. Please, can we stop once and for all overrating our players and by the way the hate against any good rival? Just watch basketball and try to be fair.

I was wondering if we had Shaq and Yao play at the same time.
Run a 2-3 with shaq and yao at the post similar to Sampson and Hakeem

Why not? I mean, he IS the second best center in the league, and it's always good to have a player who is in the top 3 at their respective position, so I'm for it. :)

I think many people are hating on him because he was on a team we loathed.

He's better than Brad Miller for our purposes, for sure. He might even be the best option available as of now..

Really... I don't know if he is top 3, but he's a great catch. I say pick him up now.

I know he isn't but not too long ago, Dampier stated he was the second best center in the league behind Shaq, so I joked around with that statement claiming him to be top 3 style, even though he isn't.

In all seriousness though, I think he would fit the system better than Brad Miller as he's more of a rim defender. I wouldn't mind getting him.
