That stone is gonna have some barbs and spikes on it. Probably won't hurt. That looks like it would be easy to go down ur pee hole.
From my buddy who has passed a couple kidney stones over the years (ugh) he concurs with what your lady doctor says. He said the passing of the stone was discomfort compared to the pain earlier.
I had one when I was 18 and the pain was incredible. I vomited too from it, several times, on the way to the hospital. I guess I was pretty lucky though in that it broke up before it passed. I never even noticed it passing. I was admitted to the hospital for it and they were planning on putting me in a tub of water and breaking it up with lasers or something, but it broke up on its own. They told me back then that since I got one so young I could probably expect to have them regularly, which was terrifying to me. The pain was that bad. But it's been 23 years since then and I haven't had another. I drink about a gallon of water a day though and I don't eat any dairy so I don't really have to worry about a calcium buildup, which is what causes kidney stones. Good luck. I feel for you.
I had one while traveling in Spain in 2007. My wife had to mime peeing blood to get me some pain medication at the pharmacist. It was a lot of fun.
Strange, went through the exact same thing..Same hospital situation and size of kidney stone...Don't worry, with this size of stone you feel a thing..Mine passed through without feeling anything...
AWESOME! I've always been a little worried about kidney stones and their associated pain, but I dislike dairy products and avoid them as much as I can so this is great information for me! Edit: Waaaaait a second... "Common sense has long held that consumption of too much calcium could promote the development of calcium kidney stones. However, current evidence suggests that the consumption of low-calcium diets is actually associated with a higher overall risk for the development of kidney stones.[2]" ... Crap! I wonder how the pain of a kidney stone compares with the pain of appendicitis? Anyone had both and can comment? I've only had the latter.
I drink about a half gallon of milk a day and tons of protein. Even more about 5 years ago. I am really hoping i don't get stones.
They say that passing stones is the male equivalent of child labor. I have had two episodes. Both times, I ended up on the floor of the ER in tears and literally, had to have a couple of folks move me. Imagine someone stabbing you in the back, violently, with an ice pick. That is pretty much what it feels like.
If it's any consolation, mine hurt like hell until it moved to the bladder. It was like the weight of the world was lifted off me. I passed it like almost immediately after that. I didn't feel it at all.
Well boys, girls, and freaks, Looks like this story has an happy ending. Just passed the sucker out through my peepee hole about 10 minutes ago. With an imagery of Niagara falls flowing through my urethra, I unplugged my man-valve. About two seconds into the stream, I felt a spurt. It is at this point that the laminar flow turned turbulent and I heard a cling clang down strainer I was holding. The flow resumed and I unleashed my anger on the stone by literally pissing on it. I then grabbed the stone with a forceps and bagged it. If anyone wants it, I will trade it for a McGrady jersey (you will probably have to add something for it to be fair to me), otherwise, its off to the urologist to examine. Oh yeah, it didnt hurt. I guess the doc was right. I had already endured the worst.
 I had a kidney stone about 8 years ago and the initial pain was nearly unbearable. I've broken bones, had all kinds of cuts, etc... and that initial pain takes the cake... by far. In my case, I fell to the floor in agony both at home and at the hospital while they were taking me to a room and I have a relatively high pain threshold. Like you, I was worried about the pain of passing it after enduring so much pain already and like you, was pleased when it didn't hurt at all. Unlike you, I did not unleash my fury on the evil stone. I don't recall doing the strainer thing either and bringing it in for further examination. I haven't had any problems since that experience and I drink loads and loads of coffee and probably not enough water. I'm probably flirting with danger though.
I want the stone examined. Apparently there are three kinds of kidney stones and having its composition examined will help me know what kind of diet to avoid.
I see. I guess my doc just didn't give a bleep. Probably would've been good to find that out. Luckily I haven't had another episode so far. Do not want. Would rather break a bone.
I guess kidney stones vary... my ex gf had 2 kidney stones pretty much back to back. I was on the process of breaking up with her too... An uncle of mine had one as well, he fainted several times.
