Man U will spin turnstiles By JOSE DE JESUS ORTIZ Copyright 2010 Houston Chronicle With 15 days until Manchester United plays its first game in Houston, the crowd for the 2010 AT&T MLS All-Star Game promises to be the second largest in the history of the game. More than 45,000 tickets have been sold for the July 28 match at Reliant Stadium between the Red Devils of the English Premier League and the MLS All-Stars, of which the first 11 will be announced today. The remaining All-Stars will be announced Friday. Only the first MLS All-Star Game, in 1996, when it was played as part of a doubleheader in which the Brazilian national team headlined against a group of international stars, drew more than the crowd that should be on hand at Reliant Stadium. The 1996 MLS All-Star Game drew 78,416 to the Meadowlands in New Jersey. link
Liverpool are much closer to falling into mediocrity than Man United. Man United's financial situation is over rated by many. They're still in the top 3 in gross income every year, and I doubt the Glazers will be around much longer, if bids of 1.5 billion pounds keep coming in.
So will the MLS ALL-STAR team have most of the U.S.A players? Jul 9, 2010 - Today Manchester United announced the full traveling roster for the upcoming North American preseason tour. Included in the list are a host of legendary players like Ryan Giggs, English standouts Paul Scholes and Gary Neville, as well as Darren Fletcher, Dimitar Berbatov, and Edwin Van der Sar. The squad even includes a few up and coming names. The traveling squad will be: Goalkeepers: Edwin van der Sar, Tomasz Kuszczak, Ben Amos Defenders: John O'Shea, Wes Brown, Rafael, Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling, Fabio, Tom Cleverley, Ritchie De Laet, Corry Evans Midfielders: Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Darren Fletcher, Darron Gibson, Nani, Gabriel Obertan Forwards: Dimitar Berbatov, Federico Macheda, Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez, Mame Biram Diouf. This is by no means Manchester United's starting full-strength squad, but it does include a number of players who are, or have been, regular contributors during their last few title-winning seasons. There are some notable omissions, though, which are the result of injuries and World Cup recovery time. These include: Wayne Rooney (World Cup), Antonio Valencia (injury), Rio Ferdinand (injury), Nemanja Vidic (World Cup), Gary Neville (injury), Park Ji-Sung (World Cup), Owen Hargreaves (injury), Anderson (injury), Michael Carrick (World Cup), Patrice Evra (World Cup), and Michael Owen (injury).
Was Rooney always going to miss this or did he just recently decide not to play? He was supposed to take part in a skills change here in London but he pulled out at the last second saying he felt it would be "inappropriate" (link here) . Usually pulling out ends up being the right choice but in this case...
I guarantee you that Javier "El Chicharito" (also known as "Mexican Sinead O'connor" by me) Hernandez will score.
back to the donovan conversation, their was a report during the World Cup that Man City was interested in signing him, which would be awesome for Landon. Their is also reports that Man City want like every play out their, there has been a proposed Robinho and cash for Ihbra. That would be sick Ihbra is one of my favorite fowards and I hate seeing play second fiddle to Messi and now Villa. Anyways are tickets still available for that Man United game in Houston?
There's a report that Manchester City would buy every single player on every single team - Donovan would be hard pressed to get starts on their log-jammed lineup with a lot of v. expensive players in front of him.
Except for last year, they've had as good a record against the other Big 4 as anyone, and it's been more about not beating some of the mid to lower teams when they should have. With the additions of Kos and (please, please, please) a new goal keeper the goals should stop leaking. I'd be fine with Schwartzer or Frey until Chesney is ready. Arsenal fan here.
I have a hard time following European Leagues...but I love when it's Champions League time! Helps that ESPN covers it... I'm also a Barca fan. Since 2006...hopped on the bandwagon ever since I got to see them in person when they came down to Houston. It was an awesome 4-4 game against Club America.
Exactly why he should stick with Everton. Maybe Fulham makes a run at him to replace Dempsey should he move to AC Milan.
I was at that game... simply amazing. Ive been a barca fan since 97.. the days when Ronaldo ( thre real ronaldo not the one you see running around nowadays) was scoring left and right for them.
Donovan's no longer got anything to do with Everton. As for Man City, I can't see him earning a spot ahead of Tevez, Adebayor, Bellamy, Robinho and Santa Cruz. City's just snapping up all the second-tier stars (only because the biggest names don't want to go there) and many of them get filtered out in the process (Jo, Benjani etc). As for Bradley going to Blackpool, I think he can do better than that, maybe a Fulham or Blackburn. Blackpool is the absolute bottom of the EPL totem pole and they'll be hard pressed to stay up next year.
I know he doesn't currently have a deal with Everton. I just mean he should consider them first since he's familiar there and would likely start. Hadn't heard about Bradley going to Blackpool. That would be a terrible move, IMO. I understand he's on the outs with his current manager, but he's got to be able to do better than a team that will likely be relegated right back where they came from.
Saw a lot of great players that game...Ronaldinho, Messi, Eto'o and Spain's own Xavi and Puyol... it's still one of the best sporting events I ever been too. I was even able to capture this awesome video! <object width="500" height="375" ><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://www.facebook.com/v/5736254284" /><embed src="http://www.facebook.com/v/5736254284" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="375"></embed></object>
