Granger is way better than Rudy Gay on defense and has all around better offensive game than Gay. Also, Brooks didn't lead anyone, it was a collective part on all of our players including Ariza, Scola, Battier, Hayes and etc. Granger's supporting cast is utter crap! Who else does he have as a teammate? All of his teammates put together are not better than Scola or any other player on our roster.
Again, that is a fair enough opinion, I just don't happen to agree. No worries...your post makes perfect sense, you like Granger, me too....I just think Brooks is our best player and a lot better than most everyone else. hehe.. DD
Assuming that everything you say to this point is true, exactly how many of them are tripping over themselves to do so? Possibly one, and everybody pretty much agrees that that one franchise could be better run by a family of chimps, and their "guy" has a whole bunch of negatives in the equation that aren't present for Granger.
Brooks+Granger+Yao=Deadly Lowry+Granger+Yao=No comparison Keep Brooks. If we had offered Brooks, the deal probably would have been done already. Morey is just not that dumb.
Granger is no superstar. I have seen him play plenty of times. His Pacer team is very poor though. He has no point guard, TJ Ford is a complete waste. Dunleavy is injured half the time, he never gets to play with him. Brandon Rush has been a bust. Troy Murphy plays no defense. Hibbert is the only promise with Granger now on the Pacers. You can also add Lance Stephenson, Paul George, and Magnum Rolle as the few promising players.
And you guys need to remember that Granger can play the 3 or 4 position which is vital especially if Yao is going to be playing. He can play the 4 position, which will definitely spread the court for Yao to dominate the low post.
Quick edit, he's no superstar right now but he's closer to that than any of the Rocket players besides Yao.
And Indiana's not dumb enough to just give away a player like Granger without getting something good back. Everyone has these visions of Granger on the Rockets, playing alongside Yao, Martin and Brooks, but it doesn't make sense that they'd get him without giving up some serious talent.
It's not that Brooks for Granger would be a lateral move. Granger is the better player. The problem is that we have too little depth at PG to make that kind of move, compared to SF. We have lots of wing depth. We only have two point guards, and Lowry can't shoot. (Having a point guard who can shoot is very important on this team.) Granger is not a superstar. He's just a very good player. I'm not looting a thin position to fill a position where we are stacked with decent players. We have so many pieces that surely if Granger was on the market we could make a deal using our depth at SG, SF, and PF. Much as I hate to admit it (because I love Scola), but it would make much more sense to give up Luis in that kind of deal. We have four power forwards, and two of them have the potential to be better than Scola down the road.
Anyway, can you imagine having Brooks, Martin, Granger, and Patterson surrounding Yao? We would have the best 3P% in the NBA. That would be a bad defensive team but the bench would have better defenders to mix in if Adelman needs to change things up.
EXCEPT if they look at Grizzlies, they'll see a young team clearly on the rise with Gasol panning out (would've been even better without that last Thabeet bust) that would have easily made the playoffs in the East, which I'm sure Indiana would easily be happy with.
I proposed a 3 way trade with NO and Indiana if in fact NO is really trying to cut contracts. NO trades Posey, Paul, West and Okafer (all the major contracts) NO gets EXPIRINGS and PICKS Indiana trades Granger and (combination of expirings), 2011 2nd round pick Indiana gets West, Martin and Posey Htown trades Martin, Battier, Jeffries, Andersen and Brooks, 2012 knicks pick Htown gets Pual, Granger and Okafer bash away
Granger's a good player, but far from great. Swapping him with Martin would be an upgrade, but probably not as much as most people think. Besides that, this board would explode with anger watching DannyG chunk up 8 threes a night.
not if he makes 3 of them per his average. he's a HUGE upgrade, incredibly so on defense. and even on offense as he is much better slashing and finishing than martin is. that said, we would need a replacement shooting guard, so that wouldn't work out.
He's still their best player, and , his contract isn't holding them down. After this season the Pacers will have like $30mil in cap space w/ a new CBA in place. I understand fans and teams want the guy, b/c he's a really good player, but the Pacers aren't moving him unless a superstar is coming back, and that's not happening b/c no superstar would want to play in Indiana w/o Granger Only way Danny gets traded is if someone really wants to overpay for him! He may not be a franchise player like James, Bosh, or Anthony but he's the closest the Pacers are gonna have. They were very lucky to get him and will not sell him cheap.
