In general Streep is considered the best. My question is simple, has Julie Roberts surpassed Streep yet, or which actress is the best?
Meryl Streep acting is simply one another level from Julia Roberts, the only problem is Julia has more punch at box office, as she quite possibly the most bankable female star of 90s and 00s.

How can you even compare the 2? Probably the greatest actress of all time (Streep) and Julia Roberts who is not even a good actress, she is an average hollywood "star." Roberts is known for romantic comedies, a genre that requires almost no acting skill.
Meryl Streep, its not even close. There are quite a few better actresses than Julia Roberts in my opinion.

I'd pick Elisabeth Shue in Leaving Las Vegas as the choice for movie hooker that looks nothing like a hooker. Jennifer Love Hewitt is in contention.... I think Pretty Woman and Princess Diaries as movies where its almost hard for a NEW young, beautiful actress to NOT be loved. Those are like "coronation" films
Not true. I would compare her performance in Pretty Woman to Reese Witherspoon's performance in Legally Blonde. Elisabeth Shue and Leaving Las Vegas has to be the most depressing piece of crap, and if you really want to compare that movie to something to show how inferior it is, compare cage's performance to Dudley Moore's performance or even Robert Downey Jr's performance in Less than Zero. Though I would put Dudley Moore's performance in Arthur head and shoulders above all of them.

Adaptation, what did see do? Have sex and smoke weed. This is the probably, it doesn't matter if she has a small, nothing part, she gets nominated. Same goes for Julia and Julie. I do like Streep. But most of the movies she was in I can't even remember the performances. I did like Defending Your Life, as another ggood film by her.
