http://espn.go.com/nba/columns/misc/1425523.html This is a story about how Michael Jordan hasn't had the player appeal many thought he would have when he took the GM (and eventually player) job in Washington. There was one part specifically about Francis... In addition to [Popeye] Jones looking for a job away from Washington, there was another curious development this week. Steve Francis re-upped with the Houston Rockets. What that has to do with Jordan and the Wizards is free agency. Francis was their guy. Not that they ever talked to him about it, but if Jordan was going to be the lure in Washington, it would be for someone like Francis. He grew up in the Washington, D.C. suburbs and ended a peripatetic college career at the U. of Maryland. Much of his family remains in the era. He's an exciting, young star. He would be the ideal kind of player to build a team around or complete a rebuilding with. He could have become a restricted free agent after this season, but chose to sign long-term with the Rockets. No one really blames him. In this sports economy, it's best to take the money. And it's more when you get it from your own team. Just thought that was interesting.
It IS interesting. They called Steve signing an extension a "curious development"... as if MJ wanted it, so it must be so. Like it's a shock that he didn't get his wish. It makes Steve's signing an even greater pleasure, IMHO. Jordan didn't "rule" this time. Ha!
I think we should all write thank-you letters to Mobes for staying - to Ming for showing his salt against the USA- to Rudy for being a loyal coach- and to Baron for telling Steve he's a balla
What I think is cool is that you can say that about 3 Rockets now: Francis, Griffin and Ming. I can think of very, very few teams in the league that can say that. PS Would someone with any knowledge of grammar tell me if I used that colon correctly? It's really bugging the hell out of me and I'm pretty sure it would be a first for me.
I noticed the same thing. Jordan wants him so he MUST want to go to Washington! ESPN is just in shock as if Francis turned down god himself.
I think this is the most unusual statement. The writer makes it sound like the only reason Francis signed with the Rockets is because of money. Pretty short-sighted view by this person. Like if money wasn't an issue he would have definitely signed with Washington or something.
What a compliment from the best man ever played the game (MJ), who would like to build a team around the franchise if the ROCKS did'nt sign him up for extension, that there's possibility that MJ might convinced Wink to play for the WIZ
I'm not sure if there is a negative connotation to this statement. If there isn't, sorry in advance. But let's not judge Kwame after 1 year. We all know high school players take a while to develop. Tracy Mcgrady, Jermaine O'Neal, and Rashard Lewis all took 3+ years to truly blossom. Let's wait several more years before judging Kwame.
actually, I think the writer was being sarcastic. The point of his article was that people aren't going to want to play for Jordan just because he was a great player.
Yeah, why would Washington want a young, All-Star PG when they can have Tyronn Lue running the point! actually, I think the writer was being sarcastic. The point of his article was that people aren't going to want to play for Jordan just because he was a great player. I thought that, but he made it seem like that Francis only re-signed with Houston because of the money. I mean he called it a curious development (as if Francis signing with Houston was a weird thing or something).
