No, the Hawks could not have gotten a better deal on Childress. Once the Hawks signed Joe Johnson to that monstrosity of a contract, it was open season on poaching Josh Childress from Atlanta. He was gone. No way that Atlanta could match any decent offer for Childress without incurring a massive luxury tax hit. Anyone familiar with the Hawks' ownership history knows that this was never going to happen. To get a trade exception and a second round pick is pure gravy for the Hawks. Frankly, it's more than I thought they'd get. Which was nothing.
The thing I think we should all note is how overpaid Mike Bibby is. Hes no more effective than a rookie PG like Eric Maynor yet hes being paid 6 million a year. If I was atlanta I would have matched the offer and then traded Mike Bibby to one of the desperate teams looking for a PG since the PG stock on the FA market is nothing more than Luke RIdnour
Raptors fans are dancing in the streets right now. Turk's contract is horrible. Would Philly fans object if they somehow traded Brand?
Since you are a Suns fan, I'm fine with your optimism. They are better after adding these two rotation players. You might contend for 1st round home-court in the playoffs, at best. But this team is softer than butter and is not a Finals contender. The roster is unbalanced because it doesn't have nearly enough physicality, defensive presence or rebounding. Over the 82 game season, this will be exploited game-after-game after things settle down. I could see the Suns getting off to a good start before they get figured out.
Yep I am a Suns fan indeed. (But obviously let me restate my stance that my absolute favorite team is the Rockets ) However I do believe I am not being a Suns homer. i dont know for sure yet but the way im looking at this is... the west didnt get too staked.. barely any teams made moves...... the east on the other hand did get ALOT better. The Jazz got half their hearts and souls torns out with the departure of Carlos BooZ. The Clippers are still figuring things out. The Hornets aren't going to make much of an impact. That leaves things pretty much the same as last year apart from a declining Spurs team and a weakened Jazz team. Quite frankly, this team lost Amare for Hedo, Childress, and Warrick. Those 3 makes the team better than it was before. I like it....same defensive and rebounding skills as Amare, but might give some more heart then him. This basically makes up for the lost offense they lost when Amare signed with the Knicks. This also means in a year when Hill is probably gone, Turk will move back to the SF position and Lawal is he continues his offensive growth be our starting PF. As for childress, gives us a lengthy defender coming off the bench that can finish at the basket. I would love to see his shooting improve, and I am sure it will since our coaching staff will put in work to improve it. Therefore, the Suns gained defense. Not that Amare played any d
Turkoglu? Not sure how he will like playing in a Steve Nash system. The guy needs the ball to make things happen. His favourite play is him dribbling out near the top of the 3-point line and then shooting a long two. He needs the ball in his hands to make things happen. How will he do that when Nash has the ball? Turkoglu at this point in his career is not one to move well off-the-ball. I don't care what people say about Stoudemire, but the dude can finish a play at the rim, none of the replacement players can do that well. This sounds like a Sarver move.
I think the well documented 'Nash-effect' will be show-cased next season. Stoudamire is going to have a Marion-style decline, and Hedo will have a career year. That's my prediction, someone make it their signature.
Interesting. Ok - we will see. I don't think Hedo will have a career year, but he'll probably be slightly better than he was with the Raps, where he was turrible (I know - I live in Canada so I get to watch a lot of their games). Hey - I like Steve Nash and the Suns from past years as well, I just don't like these moves that much.
Good moves by the suns. They only lose barbosa with these moves and will be a better team than last year. Nash is a wizard and amare will be a distant memory next year.
This move makes the a legit regular season team again, but does nothing to get them closer to contending. Their big man situation will ruin them in the playoffs. Warrick will get manhandled on defense, and their centers are soft or inexperienced. Nash/dragic Jrich/Hill Hedo/Childress/dudley Warrick Frye/Lopez
If Minny is only looking for TE from a team. Why didn't they get Al Jefferson? A potentially better version of Amare.
It is virtually the same system without an all-star front court player to play off like he did in Toronto. It's a stupid move by the Suns. Bottom line, they are shelling out huge contracts to less effective players. The Suns are a joke of an organization. There's a reason Kerr got out.
Beat me to it. My buddy that's a die hard Hawks fan seems to really think JJ's new contract isn't going to hinder them moving forward. Example #1 sure didn't take long to happen, did it?
Its a more polished, better version of Nellie and D'Antoni ball with Nash running it at most. So many SOFT square parts into round holes. Its a guess what the starting lineup will even look like Nash, Dragic J-Rich, Childress Hedo, Hill, Clark, Griffin Frye, Warrick, Dudley Lopez, Lawal Hedo should extend Hill's career a little. They'll have a nice bench if Hill moves there along with Childress, more than making up for Barbosa. It all depends how Hedo fits in, how much he has left. Just to make them a 48 win team.
The Raptors are also getting Boris Diaw from the Bobcats. Essentially they dumped Hedo's albatross contract for an upgrade at the shooting guard position in Barbosa and also a somewhat decent stretch 4 who can also play the 3. Kudos to BC. http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/07/12/bobcats-send-boris-diaw-to-toronto/
I hope this works out for the suns because Nash deserves at least one finals appearance in his career. They were so close last year too!
