If anthing, I wouldn't mind having him as our 3rd center.

Wait, nevermind. We can't get rid of the Creampuff man, Jason Collier. Forget Bateer. :D

Bateer is very solid for sure. He seemed able to backup any defender at will. I was surprised at the speed of his spin and hook move. He also boxed out everyone for his rebounds. He would be a good deal for any club to pickup and is improving yearly. (although I think his price is going up as he continues to do well throughout this tourney). Oh yea. dood even shoots international 3's although he's built like a mini-Shaq.

If you are doing a joke about the switching of names,(like Ming Yao or Yao Ming.) then I'm going to hate myself for replying. If your not, its Menke Bateer. That's what's on the Denver Nuggets page on ESPN.

I thought that Mongolians had only one name. He's a Mongolian from China right?

I'm pretty sure he's under contract with Denver next year, and I don't think they'll be letting him go anytime soon.

But if he's not under contract, and we could get him, I would absolutely love having him on the team - he's big, strong, and he showed excellent post moves, and touch around the basket.

He's a restricted free agent for Denver.

Yeah, I was also surprised by the range he had. I think he drained two three pointers. Very impressive.

I wonder why Cuban not try to get him. Mavs need a guy like Bateer. He is cheap. He didn't take much shot. He can shoot 3, He can rebound, he is vey aggressive. He is at least as twice useful as Wang.

Rockets cannot get him. Cato is a pretty solid center already.

There may be at least 10 NBA teams wanna sign him after today's game. The question is whether Denver is going to let him go. If they were ready to do that before the game, I am sure they would seriously reconsider after it.

His name is Mengke Bateer. Not Menke. Luckily or not, his family name is put behind his given name this time.

The 6-11 forward is a restricted FA for the Denver Nuggets. They don't appear able to re-sign him, so he had what amounted to a successful audition for the rest of the NBA.
    (rumor)
New York and Denver are talking about trading Mengke Bateer for Charlie Ward and Clerence Weatherspoon

All he needs is more NBA experience .
He is one foreign player that nobody will ever call soft.

I observed that it says "Bateer" on the back of his Chinese NT jersey. Is the arrangement of Mengke Bateer (given name then family name) a Western convention only or does it appear in the Chinese press this way also?

He is a "foreigner" to most Chinese. So his name is in western style. Maybe western names are in Mongolian style.....who knows?

Ming should spend as much time as he can with Bateer in practice,so he can learn how to box out and rebound better.Bateer can also help him practice jumphooks and spin moves and possibly guide him in how to improve his physical strength.
Unfortunately Ming won't be available to the Rockets until just a few days before the season begins and he needs someone with NBA experience to help him out.

WNBA: You have been watching too much ladies Basketball if you think that Cato is a
'PRETTY SOLID CENTER'. He has no court awareness, poor hands and eyes.He needs repeated severe coaching, giving him, direction for every game.

The Chinese press refers to him only as "Bateer", as it's not a traditional Chinese name and suffices to distinguish him. Maybe his name coincides with the Western naming convention, as the result of Mongolian naming convention being different from that of China's, but I'm not sure.
