I don't think we will see another one. sorry if this is the wrong place for this. move if needed. J. Moyer is at like 267. I don't think he will make it.
I'd wager we will. Careers seem to get extended and extended nowadays so that there's no reason a pitcher can't hang around until his mid-40s. It'll have to be a pitcher that can learn to pitch when his fastball goes though - like Moyer has. Zito might be an interesting candidate. He probably needs to be on a better team, but he's never really had a fastball to lose. There's no reason his career can't emulate Moyer - bouncing around from team to team as a crafty lefty with a low-80s fastball and an impressive collection of junk to surround it. Roy Halladay is 33, and is around 150 wins - if he stays healthy he's got an outside shot. CC Sabathia isn't even thirty and he's around 150 as well. If he doesn't go to fat, he could pitch for another 12-15 years. And that doesn't include guys like Lincecum and Hernandez - who could rack up the wins if they don't have any serious injuries.
its so hard just think. 15 season 20 wins or 20 seasons 15 wins I don't think we will see another due to 5-6 days rest. who knows .
Halladay is 33, with 158 wins. say he pitches 7 more seasons, which is a lot. He needs 21 wins a season to do it. CC is 29 years old, 147 wins. say he goes 10 more seasons, again a lot. He needs over 15 per season. (possible, but is guaranteed statistically to lose 1.5 season to injury.) hard stuff
Pettitte would have an outside shot if he felt like playing that long, but he'll probably retire either after this season or next. Sabathia has the best chance. He'll have 150+ wins before age 30, that's about where Maddux, Glavine, and Clemens were at the same age and way ahead of Johnson. You assume he'll get plenty of run support, at least for the forseeable future. If Moyer pitches until he's 50 and somehow gets 300, would he be the first 300-game winner not to be elected to the hall of fame? Think they'd still let him in?
It's probably impossible to get to 300 wins with today's rotation without playing for a very long time - but guys like David Wells, Kenny Rogers, Randy Johnson and of course Jamie Moyer - pitched into their mid-40s and beyond. What if a guy like Halladay or Zito or Sabathia pitches for another fifteen years? All of a sudden he really just needs ten to eleven wins a year - and that's very doable.
It can be done. The key is for a young phenom from day 1 racking up wins like crazy on a good team. Build up a surplus, then having a decent amount of wins in his older years. Then needing longevity.
"King Felix" Hernandez!!! I think he'd do it, unless he throws 125 pitches every start like last start
There is no question some guys will try to throw into their 40's buts its rare to actually be MLB level by then. Randy Johnson and Moyer still have/had good stuff at that age. I doubt CC is really 29. But to keep your arm healthy for that long will be a hard task.
he looks 40! but guys with that style body are going to be the guys who have the best chance of getting it done. Beer belly !
Strasburg could have a shot, because he is pitching well at a young age in the minors. As have been posted, guys probably need 20 years to get there. I think Strasburg will develop arm trouble due to his delivery, so that could hurt his chances.
I'm 100% positive a 300 game winner will be seen again, considering Jordan Lyles is going to do it for the Stros.
