The way Amare left was very classy, quietly getting interviews, and then he goes to the NY office, and he goes out wearing a Knicks cap, saying "the knicks are back" so that means they signed him. Nothing more, just announcing in 10 seconds your decision.
Not only did he NOT end his career in Cleveland. Besides a few MVP awards, he didn't bring anything else to the city of Cleveland.
If I'm Cavs owner Dan Gilbert I immediately look at the schedule for when the Heat come to town the first time. I then arrange a ceremony where they retire jersey #23. Even have LeBron help raise it into the rafters. Do it up right and honor the accomplishments. I'd have an emotional speech put together honoring all the ups and downs that they've seen; bring up all the heartbreaks and near misses in the playoffs and regular season. The name on the back of the jersey? Jordan
Not on TV, but ideally, a cpl more years or if they stopped making the playoffs (or were low playoff seeding) asking to leave because it's time to move on and try to win titles. Are Portland fans bitter at Drexler? Minnesota fans bitter at Garnett?
I take it you didn't read what the Cav's owner had to say about Lebron... Open letter to Cav's fans...where he RIPS into Lebron and his self proclaimed King status.... http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ba...land-fans-don-t-deserve-this-c?urn=nba,254750
Nice idea, but instead of the Jordan name, I would do that when the jersey is in the rafters, the jersey get into flames, and lebron sees hi jersey burning in flames... again!! That would be funny to see Lebron's reaction.
Someone already quoted this off Bill Simmons column on page 1, he actually gave credit. Nice try buddy.
Eventually this will blow over and Cleveland will slowly begin to respect what LeBron did for that franchise, and they will retire his #23 jersey!! They have to, he is by far the greatest Cav to ever play!!! I also predict he retires as a Cav and goes to the HOF as a Cav! Because deep down, Cleveland knows exactly who their King is!!
He did lead Cleveland to their only Finals appearance in franchise history. Given the quality of their front office, I imagine that will still be their only trip to the Finals at the point when Lebron retires.
Really dumb question. First it's his hometown and he vowed to win a championship for a city that was starving for one. He knows the heartache Clevelanders have been through because he is one. Then has the nerve to put on this spectacle to say he's leaving his hometown where he is adored by everyone. He also had his friend notify cleveland he wasn't coming back just two minutes before the show started. A 'good' way to leave wouldve been to notify cleveland that he was leaving a long time ago so they couldve had a better offseason strategy. Then he could've done everything behind closed doors and not in front of the whole nation. He not only abandoned them but embarassed the city as well.
Iam not sure but Charles Barkley has a ugly exist out of philly .. and they retired his N.O. He is the best player that has ever played for them and i dont think they'll have anybody better in the future .. Time heals are wonds and forgetting is a bless ..
Those teams were out of playoff contention and were ways away from contending. Lebrons team had the best record the past 2 years and we're going to contend again this year if Lebron had stayed. Drexler and Garnett also did that in the latter parts of their careers. They both played 12 years each with the respective teams that drafted them. So they both tried for over a decade and paid their dues, IT WAS ONLY AFTER GETTING OUT OF PLAYOFF CONTENTION DID THESE PLAYERS REQUEST TRADES. Lebron's in his prime and can carry a team. The Greats carry teams they don't piggy back. All those greats TRIED with the teams that drafted them.
Amen. They should put his number in temporary retirement until they get their next superstar who should then take his number, and lead the team to a championship. A little poetic justice...
Then you immediately throw the entire restaurant the duece, get on a chartered jet, and fly straight to see your new girl.
