I'm in no way comparing him to Kobe, but his stats were very Kobe like. Scoring points (25), high volume shooter (11-19), being aggressive and going to the line (5-5). All this was done in about 26 minutes. Even Kobe gets called a ball hog, but that usually after he goes 7-24. As one Rocket official already stated, Taylor keeps this up he will be cutting into Budinger's minutes.

Didn't Von score like 42 points in one summer league game?

Teams need scoring off the bench. Taylor would fit into the Von Wafer role, no problem.

11 is only one more than a 10 man rotation. How is this a problem?

And quite a few of these people are rookies/non-selfish (e.g. Battier) and are either not in a position/aren't divas enough to complain.

Guys aren't going to be on their game every night. Roation = Less fatigue, lower chance of injury, above all, VERSATILITY. The only position you could argue that is a bit redundant is SG Martin/Bud/JT....simply all scorers.

Whether or not you're looking through the windshield or the review mirror... Ariza and Battier sharing the "defensive only" title attribute, imo, will be over with once Yao is merely on the court. Ariza will get more open corner shots, he makes 1,2...then bam he's sucked you in too close on the next possession & drives right past you. Baseline! I believe they're will be alot more slashing oppurtunites, thus a much better offensive player in Ariza.

agreed. especially if teams decide to front yao once again, this opens the lane for our slashers to attack!

morey will have to consolidate some of this talent.

depth is a good thing, but you can be deep with serviceable guys like chuck, andersen, and jeffries. you don't need talent wasting on the bench.

better to roll that talent in to one player with a 2-for-1 or 3-for-1 deal that will get that unused talent onto the floor with one better player.

    From the interview
the yoyo: What are the chances patterson will play a lot early on?

    Morey: "Pretty low"

That was probably Morey's thinking in Landry's first year. Just saying that things change and if PP adapts quickly to the NBA (he seems to be a fast learner), Aldeman may find him some minutes.

We will eventually find a way to upgrade our talent in a "multiple for one" type of trade. You can count on that.
Until then, I think we should use our depth to our advantage and run teams off the floor. By that I mean our offense and defense should always be 100% full throttle. Our main guys might be able to go only half a quarter at such pace, but our 2nd unit can come in and completely dominate. By the 4th quarter, the other team will not have the legs to hang with us. No body will complain about minutes because they are literally giving everything they have everytime they step on the court.

This thread reminds me of the times when we all thought the Rockets were completely stacked at power forward with Maurice Taylor, Kenny Thomas, and Carlos Rogers, or that it was going to be impossible finding time for ultra-talented swingmen like Cuttino, Shandon Anderson & Dan Langhi.

lets all wait till the Rockets match Lowry and Scola's offer...you never know if some random team comes in and offer those two front loaded money that will take the Rockets over the luxury tax line by a lot.

it would be a matchup nightmare for teams because of all the different combos they would have to plan for as well.

    This.

Except, SamFisher, for the fact that we got to see what most of these players could do sans an all-league player or players (Yao Ming). We got to see a competitive and winning team (record-wise). That goes a long way toward validating talent bases in this league.

Being "stacked" means different things to different people. To me, it means the Rockets currently have several young players who have the talent, desire and opportunity to improve, individually and collectively. Without all-NBA talent to help drive it and solidify it, what fans should expect is what the Rockets were able to do last season.

Adding all-NBA talent (Yao Ming) to that mix is the main cause for optimism. With him, the Rockets have an outside chance of competing with the Lakers, Nuggets, Mavericks and Spurs (San Antonio isn't quite done yet).

    Not bad, all told, SamFisher.

Most people are making educated guesses about the Rockets' potential based on performance. Of course, some homerism creeps in with a player or two, but the players themselves justify that optimism.

It's solid assessments, generally, across the board for me. You don't really know until your team plays, of course.

But the Rockets are on the right track. For a change.

More incentive for Patterson to ignore all the NBA Ready chatter and keep working on his game.
