Don't want to sound like point foward guy but can patterson be our power 3, the robert horry position? He's long( yeah i know that's what she said), can shoot, and looks eager to play defense along with making crisp entry passes.

Not really he just seem to always have his mind stuck in scoring overdrive mode. Very Von Waferish. But yes he did have an amazing scoring game.

I'm just happy to see that Hill is willing to work in the post. He might not be great, but thank goodness I'm not watching him throw up jump shots. He just needs to add more muscle and there is plenty of time before training camp to do just that.

Pat: Looked polished on offense. Avg on D thus far. Encouraging.
Hill: Athletic & capable, but needs to work on making better decisions & gaining strength. You can tell he's worked on some interior moves. Promising...
Taylor: Ready to backup Martin. Looked good all-around.
Cbud: High bball IQ and athleticism, but shot wasn't falling today.
Leunen: Quietly had a nice game. Strong fundamentals. Worthy of a roster spot - on another team.
Johnson: Big, tough dude. Decent game. I'd like to see him on the end of the bench in-case-of-emergency.
Ish Smith: Can handle the rock and run the show, but can't shoot well and passed up an open shot or two. Not bad though.
D. Lewis: Had some quality minutes. Need to see more.

Overall: I want to see more defense from Hill & Pat, more control from Taylor, and more minutes from Johnson, D. Lewis, and Trevon Hughes.

Very promising. Go Rox!

Patterson NBA ready

Patrick Patterson Is Ready To Contribute Right Away
July 9th, 2010 Sebastian Pruiti

If I told you that Patrick Patterson had the fifth highest Offensive Rating in the NCAA, you’d probably think that I am lying. It’s a true statement though, and Patterson’s offensive game is one of the reasons why I think the 14th overall pick for the Rockets will come in and make an impact right away.

The first thing that you notice about Patrick Patterson is his body. He is a strong guy, and his combination of size and strength makes him the perfect type of player to use as a screener in a pick and roll set:

I'm watching the game replay now, and I'm very impressed with Patterson's first few seconds on the floor. Boxes his man out (textbook, it looked to me), caught the short pass from CBud, passed it back, slipped between and behind the defenders, getting open for the pass from CBud for the dunk. The man looked so damn polished compared to everyone else on the court, it was delightfully sickening.

I'm still guardedly optimistic, but less guardedly so.

I love Patterson as much as the next guy, but Horry was freakishly athletic. His defensive value was insanely high during our championship years.

I don't think you can pigeonhole Patterson as any previous Rockets player. He's not Landry because he's bigger, longer, and better at defense/rebounding. But he's not Horry either, because he has more skills, but less raw talent. In a way, Patterson's the guy who grades out basically B+ everywhere, but not really spectacular in any area except his BB IQ.

Overall defensive effort was pretty poor. Hopefully, that will get some focus.

I was most disappointed in Budinger. How many blocks against were on him? Seemed like he got blocked about 5 times on drives.

Didn't realize that Patterson had 3-point range. That's a big plus. His offensive game reminds me a bit of Shawn Marion. Maybe it's because that both have a jacked-up form on their jumpers.

I really liked Taylor's aggressiveness. He was out of control some, but he was forcing the Suns to foul. He also liked how he was active and got himself a couple of offensive rebounds. He's the kind of guy that should be on the floor for last second shots.

Hill looked good except for a few times getting pushed around. He seemed to hesitate some on offense.

Patterson was great. I'm hoping those two threes weren't just lucky. He should be great for picks as he is good at hitting the open shot as well as rolling to the basket.

Budinger's shot was off. He seemed content with letting the game come to him. I was disappointed as I was hoping to see him work on his handles and creating for others this offseason.

PG play was very sporadic. If the Rockets had a good floor general, this could have been a 30-40 point blow out.

He played good in that SUMMER LEAGUE game. The way he played though, would not translate very well in the NBA facing bigger & tougher D.

Ahhhh didn't know that. Just saw George Karl on the Nuggests SL highlights though ?_?

Perhaps as Colby Karl's parent instead of head coach of Nuggests? lol

I don't see how you can say that he is better at rebounding than Landry from one summer league. The guy grabbed 2 rebounds. I am sure he will rebound more in the next few games.

Observations from watching the game on TV yesterday.....

PPat-
Patterson should be consistent in the NBA with his range right away. The way he shoots the ball (albeit a bit low) seems like a very sturdy form with no wasted movement. Patterson was boxing someone out everytime a shot went up. He is bigger than I remember him from the tourney. The one play where he had to create his own shot he showed a very slick Luis Scola-esqe type of shot in the post and clearly managed the 2 points their by demonstrating great footwork. I want this guy to get shots, just to get him ready for the season. His strength and athleticism were obvious.

Taylor-
Was the dominant athlete on the floor today, drew fouls or got a good shot off at will. Rebouded a little bit and stayed active overall for the most part.
His shot did seem to look fluid and his offensive abilities will get him rotation time somewhere this year.

Leunen-
Showed a good jumper and got some boards. Its only going to be him or Patterson on our roster this fall, and its not going to be Maarty.

CBud- Just was himself, not spetacular..... Showed some nice passing. I still want them to go to him and let him iso/create himself a shot and see what happens.

Hill- Looked very mechanical, the black and dread locked frankenstein so to speak. Seems fast going end to end (considering his size) but very slow to go vertical. Seemed like he was always hesitating and not just going up and stuffing the ball home. He needs to just go up.

Not from the summer league, but from his overall profile.

And saying he'll be better than Landry in rebounding is kind of damning with faint praise. Landry's pretty horrible as a defensive rebounder. If Patterson can't even match that, then he was horribly overhyped by Morey coming out.

The only skill of Patterson's that is better than Landry at this point is shooting. It's too early to make any real judgments. His bball IQ (set screens, movement, etc) may also be better, but again, too early to tell.
