It's crazy, but they could even drop from 5th to 6th in 2012. If they have the 5th worst record in the NBA in 2012, there is only a 27% chance of staying at 5. They have a better chance, 36%, of dropping to 6th. For them to get true protection and not drop to 6th, they would have to be the 2nd worst team.
I forgot to include the odds. Something that some of us forgot is that the Knicks plan for the last couple of years was NOT to tank the seasons by cutting salary. In fact, the plan was to dump contracts that extends beyond this year, but at the same time trying to remain respectable and relevant. Part of that was based on a belief that a "great" coach like Mike D'Antoni will run a "fun" offense to get fans excited while getting the team to the playoffs. Didn't happen. Team didn't win. Pringles wasn't all that popular with either fans or players. Now they went through the effort to clear the 2nd max slot by giving up picks, have not max players to fill it with. This after just surrendering a lotto pick to Utah. What do they do? My guess, they go back to the Isiah-era reaction (Isiah, incidentally, was asked by Dolan to go to Lebron in a last ditch sale job yesterday): throwing money around to avoid PR disaster. They will be getting FAs that have PR value but not necessarily value on the floor. They will try to get a good team on paper. However, I have a feeling that the harder they try, the harder they will fail.
These picks (especially the swap) are now super valuable......... I expect it to be in the 5-7 range. Trading Amare for David Lee is not really an upgrade.
That is to GOOD TO BE TRUE! They thought they were getting KING JAMES but NOPE! lol They are screwed..
yes the knicks are now a little better, maybe the same. miami were already better than them, they're now way way way better than them, chicago was better than them, they're a fair bit better than them, instead cleveland and toronto who were both better than them are now worse than them.
See, I think the opposite. The Knicks fans and Dolan are so scared by the Isiah moves that they're NOT going to go after any player with a name. And instead, the Knicks management are going to string along their fanbase by claiming to keep waiting for the next big target. After all, there are rumblings already that Melo will leave the Nuggets next year, and that Deron Williams won't stay in Utah. As long as they have capspace, they can sell on the chance of such players coming. And meanwhile, they will suck on the court. Quite frankly, I don't who they get, as long as it's not in the next two years.
Frontcourt of Amare and Gallinari, softest frontcourt ever. Mike D'Antoni's system sucks, it looked great in Phoenix because he had the maestro runnin point. They won 54 games when Amare missed the whole season. Shawn Marion 2.0 I just hope they dont win the lottery. (Tony Parker trade could be a problem)
Did you guys miss the Lee SNT? NY got Anthony Randolph, Kelenna Azubuike and Ronny Turiaf. That instantly improved their roster by a lot. Now they've got a serviceable center and an up-and-coming young player who has potential to be a star in this league. That was not good for our picks.
They are still not as talented as D'Antoni's Nashless Phoenix Suns, that won only 21 out of 61 games that he coached. They had Shawn Marion, Joe Johnson, Amare Stoudemire, and Leandro Barbosa. It was much mroe talented than the current Knicks, but D'Antoni only managed to win a 1/3 of the games. It is definitely not as talented as D'Antoni's Nuggets that won 14 games in a 50 game lockout shortened season. D'Antoni had Antonio McDyess, Nick Van Exel, Chauncey Billups, and Raef LaFrentz. He won only 28% of the games, which would be only 23 games in an 82 game season. Without Nash, D'Antoni's record has 4 out of 4 seasons in the lottery, with 3 different teams. You can't tell me, that the Nuggets and Suns weren't as talented as the Knicks. Those guys were were all-stars or borderline all-stars.
Yeah, I watch a lot of Warriors b-ball, and that trade is much better for the Warriors, in my view. Turiaf would not get off the bench for most teams, honestly. Kelenna is nice but also a bench player, tops. Randolph is incredibly inconsistent and I don't see him adding wins (or, most importantly for the Knicks, any interior D whatsoever.) The Warriors crave someone like David Lee. Man I will actually watch more games now, with their guards running with Lee.
I still don't think this team will be any good even after the Sign and Trade. They have some good parts but the main problem is they don't have a guard, even if they sign, lets say, Felton or someone, I don't see them being THAT much better than last year, I still see them missing the playoffs in the east so thats about pick 8-12 in my opinion.
The way I look at it, we're just one Amare Stoudemire injury away from getting a top 10, maybe top 5 lottery pick. Not to wish injury upon them, but just saying that without him they are not much of a team.
I read today that Donnie Walsh is going to retire and the Knicks are looking to bring in Kevin Pritchard to replace him. Objectively, thats not good news for the rockets. And they have a very athletic front line now with Stoudamire and Randolph to go with DiAntonio's run and gun offense.
