    3 assist
    27 mins

    U.S.
    O'Neal
    1 of 4 shooting
    2 pts
    5 rebounds
    2 blocks
    2 assists
    20 mins

    Wallace:
    3 of 6 shooting

In comparison Yao Mings numbers look superior. Yao only played 27 minutes and it was in a close game.

i think yao will turn out to be the best of the players listed, however, these stats do not show who is better. USA's team has so many threats that they do not need to give it to one guy over and over again where as that was the only reason why china won...yao was their only major threat and the ball went to him almost every play he was on the court for. Yao is good, but these stats don't matter...however, it was a GREAT game for him...way to go yao ming.

Yep, the big men on team USA aren't going to get as many touches on offense as Yao did this game, even though he did his damage with only 15 fg attempts.

But can you explain why Yao alone equaled the rebound total of Brand, Davis, and Oneal combined, and doubled their total combined blocks in only 27 minutes? (btw, FIBA has Yao w/ 13 rebs and 8 blocks.)

    I can- he's a bad mutha.

It could also be because the whole US team rebounds, and all Algeria did was jack up threes. And Brand, Davis, and Oneal each played fewer minutes.

It's a waste of time to compare the stats of Yao playing on a bad team to the US team which has mostly all-star caliber NBA players. The numbers just don't translate, and they don't tell you anything about the relative abilities of the guys you are comparing.

the point was that yao outrebounded all 3 of the us big men combined. true yao plays on a bad team, but he also gets ALL the opposing teams attention. there isn't alot of individual pressure on the US side because they're all great. now i'm not saying that at this point yao is better than those 3 but the stats do show more than nothing, they're very impressive. could antonio davis get those same numbers playing on the chinese team? i doubt it.

GREAT POINT!!!:) I'm sure it's tough if you have 2b the go=2-guy all the time and b the total focus of the opposition!!! I love the way MING handles pressure thus far , it shows he has tremendous character!!:)

This is the WBC and every team that plays is good to great teams in the world. The level of competition is high. The Algeria team doesn't players over 6-9 - they are a team that emphasizes on speed and quickness, since they are inferior sizewise why couldn't the US big men dominate them as much as the US guards did? or why is there not a single big man that had the defensive prowess that Yao had(13 boards and 8 blocks) against Algeria? Defensively Yao simply played better than any US big man against the same opponents. Offensively, J.Oneal shot 1-4, Ben Wallace and Antonio Davis lack the offensive tools that Yao has, the only big man who could've matched Yao's points was Elton Brand(he still fell short), but he's nowhere near Yao's stats defensively while playing more minutes. These two games against the same opponents shows a that Yao is probably a fundamentally better all around player than the US big men. What he lacks is experience, stamina and upper body strength, once he got those fixed he'll be the second best center in the NBA behind Shaq.

    Look at his ft%. That's 83%.

Jack Sikma is the only big man I can remember having better than 80% ft average.

    Don Nelson won't be doing hack-a-ming tactic.:D

Free throw percentage is the only category that represents a pure individual bastketball skill. It doesn't matter how tall, how strong, or how fast you are, and it doesn't matter how good your teammates or coaches are, you just have to stand at the line all by yourself and make the shot UNDER PRESSURE.
